I was thinking about getting a mini-PCI firewire card like this one http://www.nextwarehouse.com/item/?326428_g10e and putting that into the mini-PCI slot that normally houses the WLAN card. Anybody have any thoughts or luck with this? I'd really like firewire on this laptop.

Does it not have a PCMCIA or PC express card slot. Why not use that for the firewire instead of putting it internal? Doing this will allow you to have the firewire funtionality plus you get to keep the wireless as well!

Nah, it doesn't have any expansion slots or that sort of thing, that's the problem. The only "slot" that I've found is the mini-pci one inside that's loaded with the wifi card. I'm just curious if it's a bad idea to try and replace it with a firewire card and swap out an external USB port for firewire (and do something like rig up a USB wifi adapter internally), or if it's a *REALLY* bad idea to attempt to do all this.

In that case, it could work. I cant give you a definite answer since I havent seen any C700 user attempt this but theoretically I dont see any issues except HP might have blocked the slot to only accept their wifi card.

BTW, before you buy make sure you have a mini PCI slot not the newer mini PCIe slot.

I'm pretty sure it's a PCIe (express?) slot. And is there any way to check if HP did put the block on this slot? Regardless, thanks for the input it's really helpful!
