Adding internal Bluetooth to dv9x00?

Has anyone here ever looked into adding bluetooth to a Pavillion dv9000 or dv9200 that didn't come with one by default? I have a pre-configured dv9207us that didn't come with internal Bluetooth, and would like to do this, but wanted to know if anyone has ever tried before/how hard it is?

From the service manual on their website, it seems like the HP Part# for the Bluetooth module is 412766-002. Anything else I'd need to get?

Edit: Apparently 412766-002 includes the Bluetooth module cable, so 434677-001, the cable kit, is not necessary.

 

why dont you just buy a bluetooth module and plug it into you usb port, giving you instant bluetooth? they cost like 10 dollars or less on ebay.

But install is not that easy for the internal bluetooth. you would need to disassemble a lot to get it installed.

 

I just ordered the module myself and can't wait to install it. Having taken my dv928nr apart twice, it tends to be pretty easy to do. The first time I just wanted to be nosy and look around inside...........lol like I do to eveything electronic I get.

What are the advantages of having internal bluetooth? My mouse and keyboard are both wireless, but have an external receiver that they use. My speakers are wired, as is my camera. What would I use it for?

 

Internal bluetooth, especially on a notebook, means you don't have to take up another usb port, you don't have something sticking out the side when you put it in a bag, you don't have to make an extra step to plug it in before you want to use it.

You keyboard and mouse might be bluetooth, might not. Unless they specifically say they are, then they are probably just wireless, but not bluetooth.

 

The advantages are that if in your case your Mouse/keyboard happen to be bluetooth you wouldn't had a receiver sticking out of your notebook, and more portability. And if you had a PDA, Cell phone, or any other kind of bluetooth device it would be easier to connect and sync them to the computer. But obviously if you don't have any bluetooth device or feel that it is not essential to you, then you don't need it.

 

I'd like to know how this goes for you as well. That's the same radio used in the DV9310. Pics would be great. Also, where are you ordering the radio from? HP qouted me $106

Well I got my Bluetooth Module today..........spent the last 3 hours on the phone with HP being switched back and forth..........the cable did not come with the module as it is stated to. I have never spoken to so many idiots in my life. I got tranfered at least 12 times............from parts to service to warranty and back all over again..............all for a frickin piece of wire not included.............and Still NO Resolve.............So I'll be shipping it back.......and all these idiots could keep talking about is a Customer Service Survey after they are done...............are they on Crack?!?!?!?!?! Didn't help me at all and kept reminding me during the conversation about a survey to take.

Awe, come on Bunky. Everyone's had crappy service from one company or another somewhere along the line. So far all my experiences with HP have been positive but that doesn't ensure they all will be. Frankly, I'm often shocked that my employer ever sells anything sometimes with the way we treat our customers. It's a sad fact of life that business in general isn't what it used to be. That goes for employers and employees alike. Do the survey. Express your disatisfaction. Do it more than once because companies need to hear it and we shouldn't settle for it. Don't be afraid to ask for compensation for the delay. (might not get any but doesn't hurt to ask) Just don't give up. It's a worthwhile project and a pretty minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things.

 

From observing the service at HP Parts from these threads, it really seems like they are the worst of the worst. Same part number for the SATA and PATA extra drive bays, and you just order and pray you get what you want. Missing parts all the time. For some people it comes with screws, for others it doesn't. It's a shame there's no other ready source for most of these parts. Doesn't even seem like it's being run like a business.

did anyone succeed in installing the Bluetooth PCI card into the Dv9000?? I've got a DV9035NR, I'm going to be attempting the internal install, just not sure if it will work or not. the manual shows i can get it, but the parts list, doesn't show the DV9035 as valid for installation.... I will end up opening the laptop up to see if the plug and location are available to install it. then purcahse part: 412766-002

Yeah has anyone been successful? I wanna upgrade my 9500, but I can't seem to find the part. When I order from spare parts at HP.com, it's like 105 bucks? that's ridiculus! ALSO I saw a core 2 duo t7300 spare part for like, $1500 at hp.com LMAO!

i just want to ask you a question about why does the Bluetooth module Part#412766-002 come with very short 8-pins thin and flat bluetooth cable and one screw only in the new sealed hp box. the cable is about 5 cm only,

But i read the service manual, it appeared that the bluetooth cable is much longer than this short one. i am confused 434677-001 and 412766-002

is there any solution for that? or i made the wrong part order?

well....first off...when ordering the bluetooth module, you will need to order 2 separate part numbers totaling about 200 for that internal bluetooth mod.

and it does come with a cable, just not the one 99 percent of us use. (damn shame!!)

i added internal bt to my laptop, but bought the part from ebay, 30 bucks. and bought the cable kit from hp 75 bucks.

one more question about 448015-001 cable kit, could you tell me the specification of bluetooth long cable like is it 8 pin 1.0mm or 1.25mm (connector connects the mainboard of dv9000) because i will try to make one myself.

I have a DV9730NR that I really want to add internal bluetooth to, I just ordered 412766-001 from ebay and the more I look and read, it seems this is just the wifi card. What part numbers will I need to purchase? Any help would be great! Thanks

 

you ordered the wrong one..sorry. you need 002 and not 001

it says the upper one is 8-pin 1 cm, the lower one is 8-pin 1.25cm

I just purchased part number 412766-001 for my dv9207us on ebay from "laptopaid", it was just under $30, shipping included. They shipped quickly, and I just finished installing it...and it works perfectly.

Now... installation is NOT for the meek... but HP has a very nice set of videos here:

what did the cable look like for the dv9200 series?

 

Replacing your wifi mini pci card with this wifi/bluetooth combo. http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=MP54GBT2. Much easier because you dont have to run any cable you can reuse the existing one. It might not fit your model

 

I thought HP had a "approved" list of cards that were only usable on their laptops. Is this one on it?

 

The cable looked very similar to the one pictured by you a few posts above... but maybe with a shorter cable. The module mounts in the front right of the laptop, and the wire was about 8 or 9 inches long. It had a black plastic end where it connected to the motherboard. The module itself was about the size of a postage stamp, very small.

It might not. The cable and slot of HP and MSI laptop should be the same but MSI design this specifically to fit their laptops. Im not sure if your model has enough clearance. Often HP uses a smaller mini-pci card or slot is reversed.

my DV9035NR is going to get the 002 part, whats the diff between 001 and 002? Both have people who said it worked? Had anyone tried the MSI replacement miniPCI card and confirmed it actually worked?

002 is the correct part for bluetooth
001 is the correct part for wireless adapter
minipci seems to be a new alternative which has both (bluetooth+wireless-G not N) only flaw with this is...if your computer only has one attenna.... if you have two, then you loose part of your wireless to the bluetooth reciever....unless of course the bluetooth doesn't use one...then all would be good. and someone has confirmed it as working...not me of course...lol...but someone has.

 

I'm a little late in this but discovered a few things.

Part# 412766-002 is a Brodcom module BCM92045NMD 2.0, BCM2045

This BCM part number appears to be widely used by all kinds of manufacturers. Including HP, this module has 3 or 4 hp part #'s.

To make it short this module probably works with almost any laptop
BlueTooth capable and a place to plug it in and is widely available at greatly varying prices.
However, and this is my problem.
The cable!!!! Again Hp has several cables that connect to this module, all different lenghts and who knows what pin outs.
So the module has an 8 pin connector.
Are all the pins used and if so, what are the pinouts. I found an artical for an Acer laptop using this module with only four pins in use.
( USB configuration + D+ D- gnd )

Does anyone have the pinouts for the Hp?

I want to add bluetooth to a Hp DV9315.

 

I found a seller on eBay with the right cables and modules. HelloWiFi is from China. The cable can be purchased for 12 dollars and change. The module and cable are 26 and change. They have links to different sites to help you out.
First go to the HP site and find your Maintenance Guide. If you can put Bluetooth in your PC it will be in the manual. It will give you the part number and step by step instructions to remove and replace the bluetooth module as well as any other part in your PC.
The cable must be at least 9" long to reach properly. I was sent the wrong cable(8"), so I'm waiting for the right cable to come so I can finish this install. Beware that you must remove the wireless network card from the laptop. This is not mentioned in the instructions but the screws used to mount the card also hold the top cover on. I found this out when I took my laptop apart. I would also advise getting a plastic box with separate compartments and labeling each compartment as you put the screws for each part into them. Each part has its own size screw, some are silver, some are black, and they are different lengths. The manual has the specs.
I personally took out my DVD drive and took one of the screws from the bracket on the back of it. In the manual it tells you that the screw for the bracket is the same size as the screws to mount the Bluetooth module. Then I went to my local PC repair shop and they had a box of laptop screws that I was able to get two screws exactly the same size to use for mounting the Bluetooth module. They charged me one dollar for two screws, great buy and no aggravation.
When I get it up and running I plan on posting the install with pictures, but until I complete the process that is on hold. I hope this information helps. Search around the HP site, there is all the information you need to do pretty much anything you want to do.

has anyone found the pinout for the BCM92045NMD i realy need it i have seen like Quizzman withone with the first 4 wires used but there was no information and i cant find the schematic of the laptop they were using it on.any help please.
