Hello everybody first post here,
I have a HP DV 9207us notebook running vista home premium. I have:
1. 17" widescreen glossy display
2. Nvidia Geforce Go 7600
My problem is the contrast is way too high for me and is literally giving me headaches. If I try to decrease the brightness to the point where the contrast dosent bother me then its too dark to read text comfortably. Is there any way to adjust the contrast? Is there any software I need to use?![]()
Also is Vista brighter in general? I also tried to connect my laptop to an external monitor and I was having similar problems although not as bad because I was able to decrease the contrast on the external monitor.
I never had this problem with XP.
Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Go to the Nvidia Control Panel, these alot of settings there that can adjust the color settings and stuff to reduce eye strain
Just right click on the desktop of you have vista and it should show nvidia control panel -
If I click on "adjust image settings". I have a slider to chose between performance and quality. I have tried to adjust that but it makes little difference.
How can I change the settings? -
Use a program like Adobe Gamma (comes with Photoshop).
-
You must have the outdated drivers then, which gives you the older version of the control panel. Update your video drivers and try again.
It should have alot more options/settings than you described. -
Is there a more recent driver I can download? If so where do I get it? -
www.laptopvideo2go.com. Read the stickies.

You often cannot adjust the contrast on a digital panel (LCD). You are able to do so on your external LCD because you are (most likely) using the VGA cable to connect to it. If you used DVI/HDMI, you would not be able to adjust it either.
And no, "Vista" is not brighter, it's because you have a different computer. -
you should be getting this screen if you have the www.laptopvideo2go.com drivers

Thanks for all your help guys. I installed the latest nvidia driver from that site and now I am able to adjust contrast and gamma.
However I'm still not able to get the "right" combination for my eyes. It seems like no matter what I do my eyes are strained much more than when I use my XP desktop. Maybe the glossy display is contributing to my eye strain too? I dunno -
Try a faster refresh rate in your video driver if you are given the option. I think I saw it in my Nvidia control panel, so check to see if you have it.

Instead of making a new thread, I thought I'd add my problems to this one....
My laptop is an HP Pavillion dv6000 with a GeForce Go 6150 graphics.
Like the OP initially had, my nVidia control panel doesn't have any option for changing gamma/contrast. It just has options for changing the display to an external monitor.
Before I found this thread, I tried downloading drivers from HP, which did nothing to change the nVidia control panel.
On laptopvideo2go I read the ForceWare Updater's Guide, but I couldn't find which drivers I need to download for Windows Vista.
Could someone please point me in the right direction?
Or, if you think it's better that I use Adobe Photoshop for the monitor calibration, please tell me. I can try that instead also.
thanks!! -
How did you find the correct driver? When I clicked on "70" driver series, I only found things for XP. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough.
Thanks again.
UPDATE: flipfire, the link you gave me didn't work, but I just downloaded it myself from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=16152. Is that right? The rest of the instructions I can follow and hope they apply. -
Hmmm.... I tried installing the new driver, switched the modded inf, etc.
But, the nVidia control panel hasn't changed. I still can't get an option to try to change the gamma/contrast.
Any other tips, or suggestions on what I should do if I try this in Photosop?
Thanx. -
