Hi, I want to order the Hp envy 14 from the online shop. however, as I'm not very good with computer specs, I think i do need some help

(off topic- is quad core i7 1.6ghz faster then dual core i5 2.3hz ) ?

i just need a fast and zippy laptop. not alot of multitasking, at the most maybe running a download or multiple web tabs when i'm gaming.

    thanks in advance :)

Stick with the dual core if thats all you're doing.

Quad i7 for video encoding, number crunching, photoshoping really really large images, multiple virtual machines, gaming (But the GPU is the limiting factor for the Envy 14 also you will lose switchable graphics with the i7). Also makes a nice heater for the winter.

Easily handled by dual core i3 or i5 CPUs, though you'll have to say what apps you are alternating between. I will recommend the default dual core for you until you define the apps.

Over heat, No. Haven't heard of any Envy 14 with i7s over heating. But the i7 CPUs use more power and will run hotter. Also the i7 CPUs do not have the integrated graphics. You will not be able to switch between dedicated and integrated graphics which will also affect your heat and battery life.

For the things you're planning to do the i3-370M Dual Core is more than enough for that. If you want a slightly faster CPU then the i5-460M for an extra $50 is a decent upgrade.

For the price up upgrading to a i7 quad core, your money is better spent on getting a Solid State Disk (SSD) drive instead for improved over performance.
