Hey all. So recently I ordered an HDX16 to go with my HDX18. Then when I got the 16, there was a problem with the blu-ray drive. So they replaced it with another 16. Now the second one has issues too. There's a nick on the touchpad side, where it meets the handrest. It looks like a nick in the plastic, like someone accidentally hit it with a metal tool. Secondly on the right side on the bottom of the infinity screen they have a plastic cover. It's not held in straight, I assume when they glued it on, it didn't glue in properly. The left side piece is fine, but the right side one is not. I know I am crazy but I like my stuff perfect when I pay that much. Anyways, my question is Windows 7 comes out next week. I have till the 26th for my 21 days to be over. Should I request a replacement now or later? I'm basically asking if the laptops next week will come with Windows 7 already, or will it take a little while longer? Since, I'd prefer just to have it with Win 7 already setup if I could, since it's now so close to release date.

I'm with ya on not being satisfied with poor assembly and/or quality control. These things just cost too much. JMO.... but I think if I were in your position I'd send it back now. If you wait until your trial period ends you may never get it repaired to your satisfaction and they likely won't replace it.

Given that Win 7 will be out next week and newer units with much better specs will be available shortly, you might be able to get a better unit or get another HDX at better price when the "old" tech stuff goes on sale. Just a thought.

    Best of luck..

Well I don't mind the much better specs, I am happy with the HDX16 and its specs. I just prefer to have Win 7 come factory installed, since I've run into problems in the past upgrading Windows.

Understood.... but as I said, if you wait until your trial period ends you may never get it repaired to your satisfaction and they likely won't replace it afterwards. ...and who wants to pay for a brand new "repaired" unit anyway.

When new HDX models will begin being delivered with Win 7.... who knows....next week maybe.... next month perhaps more likely.

I hope it's next week. I'd really rather have it already pre-installed. But like you said, I can't wait too long.

Never accept any product that's not up to standards OP. The only exception would be if they intend to give you a discount because of it. That's the value in scratch and dent or floor models. The only question is is the discount enough to make up for it?

As for W7, the official release date is when consumer should expect to purchase the laptop with the new OS already installed. Technically, you could purchase it with W7 today.

Well, unless they give me $100 (which they won't) I would not accept the money. I am quite anal about my electronics, and always wants them perfect to a tee. I went through 3 or 4 HDX18s till I found a PERFECT one. I mean perfect in every regard that I saw.

Thank you for the advice, I am hoping I can get a HDX16 with Win7 or maybe even a DM3 or something, though I prefer a bigger screen and built-in DVD.

I used to be that way until I learn the fine art of negotiation. Now I will gladly live with a defect if it saves me a substantial amount of money. And that's particularly true when the defect or blemish is not paramount to the operation of the device.

Don't you mean a Blu-ray player? After all, you're getting an HDX.

I did try negotiating, and they were offering $50. They would not go up, and so perhaps I don't have the art of the negotiation down, but at the same time, part of me wouldn't keep it no matter what. Even if I did get the $100.

I was referring to the DM3 and its lack of a DVD drive. I don't need blu-ray, I obviously love having it, but don't need it. It's not a dealbreaker at this time per se. I figure a portable blu-ray drive will cost that much more than a portable DVD-drive.

I'm sorry, but buying a new laptop without the latest technology just doesn't make sense to me. It's one thing to get it as a gift or second had, but to plan to make that purchase just seems like paying for instant obsolescence.

For the record, even middle of the road laptops now come with blu-ray players.
