I got the option to purchase an 8710w with the following configuration :

    Cod. KE192EA#ABZ
    CPU Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 2.5Ghz
    RAM 1x2048 Mb DDRII 667Mhz
    HDD 200 GB 7200 rpm
    DVD+/-RW DL Super LightScribe
    17.0 WSXGA + (1680X1050) WideViewingAngle
    NVIDA Quadro FX 3600M 512MB
    Power supply 120W + 2nd power supply 135 W

Total price Euro 2100 shipped, including taxes (about US$ 2800).

It is much cheaper than the 8730w (consider the price also includes 20% European VAT), and the specs look still good to me.

What do you think about this offer?

Kinda expensive with no Blue-ray and WUXGA, but for Europe I think it's reasonable.

I have the exact same configuration, only with blue-ray (KE190EA).

I actually find the WSXGA resolution a plus since the WUXGA is too high on 17" for my preference.

The only vague drawbacks I could think of would be the lack of camera and PCMCIA slot (instead of now common Express card - 8730w has it).

Mine also has one stuck pixel, though, but I got it rather cheap so I'm not complaining. Otherwise, I'm impressed with it.

BTW, it comes with 135W and 180W adapters (FX3600M).

    Thanks for the answers.

Out of curiosity : ijozic, where did you purchase your 8710w from? And the WSXGA screen looks good in terms of quality (besides the dead pixel ...)?

I'm not from EU so it won't help you, but in the stores here it's also around 2200 EUR. I got it for 60% of the price from someone who gets it somehow and sells it for cash. Didn't ask, didn't care, as long as I get a new laptop this cheap with valid warranty card.

WSXGA screen is ok, but it depends which screen you get. Mine has LP900 code or smth similar (LP meaning LG-Philips). The screen loses some of it's brightness when you're not looking at it head on, but otherwise I have no complaints (use it for gaming a lot).

I have heard people complaining about Samsung screens, but I'm not sure if Samsung delivers the WSXGA screens as well.
