If you installed in the order listed above, the UAA should be installed before the modem and sound drivers.

    Sorry, got it backwards.

Anyway, what drivers are you using and where did you get them? The reason I ask is that a search on HP Driver Support for a dv9200 CTO came up with zero sound drivers listed under XP, only on Vista.

You need the exact model number as explained in the link below to enter into the search box to find correct XP drivers available for your specific unit.

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...duct=3224049&os=228&lang=en&docname=c00033108

Perhaps the download page you see will be more informative than the "generic" one I found. At least this way you can compare the driver version numbers against what you are currently using......

    :)

    my system doesn't have a model #......

but according to the Vista sound area the device ID is the Venice chipset

EDIT: all drivers came from the HP site....

Kane, have you tried installing the Vista sound driver in XP to see if it works (since the Vista one should be for the Venice chipset). Of course, you would still need the UAA first.

EDIT: Another thought. Put in your Vista Recovery DVD and point XP to it when it tries to search for a sound driver. See if it installs correctly that way. Or, use the backup disc of the SWSETUP folder you made and do the same as above.

I'm thinking that you are getting the wrong version of drivers for your particular chipset, since HP seems to use many different variants of Conexant sound across the model lines. Apparently, not all dv9XXX AMD units are using identical sound devices (other than in name).

My model is the dv9081, the audio device is the venice chipset according to directx so check the drivers for that and see if they help (or if theyre the same as the one you installed)

Well, if it makes you feel any better...I updated a Modem driver from Microsoft Update, and the laptop BSODed me. I later updated a mouse driver, and on reboot it BSODed me. Both BSODs were the fault of the new drivers...
