I have a HP Pavilion dm4x with a Alps Pointing Device. I'm looking for a multitouch driver for a retail copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I have tried sp48462, sp48253, sp45293, sp41460, sp45035, sp40715, sp45558 and sp45284 as well as a few other random ones and none work.

Here are the specs of my laptop.

The latest HP assistant I spoke with told me the Alps driver for the XU499AV hasn't been released yet. I was asking for the XU440AV Alps driver, in the past, but the sticker on my laptop is incorrect. I'm still unsure why backing the driver from HP factory installed Win7 and restoring it on retail Win7 doesn't work. I guess I'll be sticking with HP's Win7 until the driver is released.

I have noticed a lot more people looking for the Alps driver for this laptop. If anyone comes across this thread in search for the driver, join me in hounding HP for them to release it! Leave posts in HP's forums, relentlessly ask about it in their Live Chat, leave bad reviews for the DM4X, but remember to still be kinda and polite. There is power in numbers, as demonstrated with HTC and Motorola. We can put a lot of pressure on them together and do something about this.

Have you tried using the ALPS driver that was in the SWSETUP folder when you first got the laptop?

Hopefully you made the recovery disks when you first got the backup or you still have the drivers in some way shape or form.

I too tried to find the ALPS drivers online (unsuccessfully) and had already deleted all recovery partitions, not made the recovery disks and did not backup anything from the SWSETUP folder. Fortunately (or not), I had to return the laptop for a replacement due to hardware issues and got another shot at the whole thing.

I can try and upload the drivers for you if necessary.

For the record, I have 7.206.1717.117 currently installed dated 2/18/2011
