My nc6320 came with an 100gb Hitachi, now I've yet to change the management settings on it yet..so I don't know whether I can quieten it a bit or adjust it's accessing.

I have found it slightly noisier than Toshibas and Samsungs I've used in the past. So I'm looking for an alternative..

Samsung is my preferred brand having had good success with them in the past, Seagate I've never tried at 2.5", Toshiba I'd never use again if possible and WD are ok but the are a pain to RMA in the UK as they have to go to Germany (expensive).

I'm looking at 100gb min obviously, not overly bothered about 5400rpm or 7200.

One additional thing, are HP laptops more prone to heavier disk activity or is that down to Hitachi drive or something else..I've definitely seen a lot more disk light activity than I expected even when relatively idle. Is this something I can alter in the power management or Bios?

    Cheers.

Hitachi and Seagate are the leading makers of hard disk drives. Use Tom's Hardware hard drive charts for more information.

I like Seagate HDs mainly due to their 5 year warranty.

My dv2000t shipped with a Fujitsu 5400rpm 120GB hard drive. They seem to be much quieter than some of the other brands out there. I have to put my ear right up to the hard drive to hear anything. Reading the reviews at NewEgg is a great way to tell if specific models they sell are quieter than others.
