So I am playing around with my new dv9000t and burn a disc and try to label it with Lightscribe...I get a message saying that I have to have a Lightscribe compatible disc in order to burn a label.
I'm I to understand that I need to go out and purchase special DVD discs in order to use this feature?

Yup only discs with the lightscribe logo will allow you to use the LS feature. Incidentally can you tell me what's the name of your drive in device manager, Ive got a dv9000t and having trouble cuz its "supposed" to be a LS drive yet all the programs ive say its not. Its a TS-L802A, whats yours?

DVD/CD-ROm drives, the name of the drive itself

I don't think he was asking about using the Lightscribe feature, but in general do you need Lightscribe disks. No, you shouldn't. Any DVD-R (actually mine uses all types of media including DVD-RAM) should work. Under device manager, mine says : DVDRAM GSA4084N and it is LightScribe.

Mine says: DVDRAM GSA4084N
But it gives me an error message saying I need to use Lightscribe discs..... -
You can use any media to burn a disk, but if you want to burn an image on the disk you will need lightscribe media as it has a special coating.

My 9000t says GSA4084N also

I think Lightscribe is more of a quirk than anything else. You have to buy "lightscribe" disks to burn a label which is much more costly than just the discount re-writable media.

so u guys with the GSA4084N drive. do u guys have HD support as well in other words can you play HD discs?

Lightscribe images can give AMAZING results, and are really cool gifts for people. So it is a fun thing to have. But yes, to burn a LABEL you need the lightscribe capacity.
Am I "forced" to buy Lightscribe Discs in order to use Lightscribe?
