So I already owned an Envy 14 and bought a new one with a radiance with the intention of selling my (now-3 month old used one). I've discovered that the difference between selling my current envy 14 and the new (radiance) one I just received is going to be about $400 (!!!) while the radiance one only cost me about $70 more....

Would anyone really value the radiance as being worth $330? Anyone in a similar situation that has actually compared the displays? I really want to justify keeping it but it just seems like a bad decision considering the difference in value.

I never owned the Envy 14 prior to purchasing it just recently with the -$500 off coupon and the radiance screen. Part of me wanted to just buy it, then resell on ebay but after opening and using this thing I don't think its justifiable to part ways with it. I needed a good laptop anyway :)

I wouldn't eBay it just cause your profit margin is cut with eBay and PayPal fees. Why would you be a bad person? I sold my beats envy for 900 and bought a substantially better envy for 900.

Are you a bad person for allowing someone who's radiance order was cancelled to have a second chance to get what they want? No. Would you be a bad person if you sold it for way more than it would cost from hp (without the $500 coupon)if it was available? More yes than no.
Basically, if you decide to sell it for profit go right ahead but don't go overboard. Just think if you were on the other side of the equation. Of course this is all one man's opinion and should be taken as such.

It's simple business. If you sell it at too high of a price, you won't get a bidder. If you do, then more power to you as the bidder accepted the high price. It's not like you're one of those people who hoard a bunch of low supply electronics to resell at a high price.

I'd sell my Radiance-clad Envy for a million dollars if there was a buyer.

I would feel the same way if 400 people didn't get cancelled for no apparent reason.

Ebay sucks. Try another method. I tried to sell my old laptop on it and the buyer who won just didn't pay period. Meanwhile I'm stuck with the thing and I would've had to pay eBay 50 bucks plus whatever paypal fees it was just to do so. Try the marketplace here. I was offering 1250 for a good one to a couple of people who were trying to sell there's, but instead I went for an HP office offer of a SSD BV device and ordered a radiance screen off the part store. Ended up to be a little more than the 1250 but I get a 256gb SSD that should be worth my hassle.

I've been following the eBay market for them and there was a bunch up for like 1600 new, and maybe one sold or was taken down, however now there's a bunch for about 1100 to 1200. Maybe they'll hit 1300 if they're lucky. But even after that ebay/paypal is gonna rob you of about 10% so blah.

I'm just pissed mine got cancelled, and people who ordered after me and people who bought 2 or more didn't.

    blahhhh

I echo this same line of thought. eBay just isn't what it used to be, and the fees for listing and selling the Envy 14 is going to take a definite cut into your profit, and this is even before you incur any PayPal fees. :(

Make that TWO men's opinions, at the very least! I second everything Spencer said +1 rep for putting it perfectly.

Why not offer it for sale on NBR? Better yet, let me be the first of many offers likely to come on this site: I will buy it from you, or anyone else who wants to sell it for a reasonable, not shameful profit. Thankfully, I don't "need" to have this computer, but my son is a budding graphic artist and I thought he would really benefit from the near-perfect color gamut, at $1,500 less than a MBP, which I don't want in my house anyway, lol.

Seriously, anyone who wants to sell their Radiance, as long as it's not a Core i7 quad, I'm ready to buy it NOW, so please PM me.

lovelaptops, if I had the radiance Envy 14 I wouldn't want to make ANY profit off of you. I'd just give it to you for the cost I paid..... Yeah, guess I'm too nice? :p Seriously, I do hope someone cool on NBR will email you and set you up with a fair deal for the radiance screen.

P.S. Happy early Valentine's Day! Cool that you're looking out for your son's future.

    KJ,

One starts to wonder if we're just being saps and it's really true that "nice guys finish last!" :D

I will take your lead, however, and tell anyone who has ideas of selling your new Envy with Radiance, i5 only, I will pay your cost plus a reasonable profit - to be negotiatied; between us, we'll see if we have the same idea of "fair." My situation is that I started out the luckiest SOB among us: got my order in very early, received shipment Jan 28, 4 days ahead of schedule, and fired it up and marveled at the radiance until we noticed two blue blotches in the upper right of the screen. Tech support confirmed it was defective hdwe and sent me a box to just send the computer, which I did and they've had it since 1/31. At first they said I would "definitely" get a replacement for the screen - a radiance - that HP stocks more than enough for wtty claims for years to come. Then it was: "they're backordered, we probably won't get it in stock until March." When I reminded them that they weren't being made anymore and HP already had in its warehouses 100% of all the 14.5 Radiance displays this world will see for a long time at least, they said: "all we can tell you is what we were told. Well, as you might have noticed, March is way past the 21 days I have to return it for a refund, and I have a very strong suspicion the long date was to give HP the time it needs to decide how to allocate the few radiance displays it has left among the many who want/need one. I got lip service that they will try to "escalate" it (a term they bandy around to lull you into a false sense of security) and may get it sooner.

So, if you're selling, I'm buying! It's a sure thing, no eBay commission, no eBay buyer protection, and I'll make the payment in such a way that Paypal will not take a cut. And you'll be helping a disabled kid who can only do stuff from the waste up and shows a lot of promise as a graphic artist (don't do it out of pity though, he'd hate that!).

    Thanks.

I don't think you're a bad person, but I wouldn't be surprised if the only reason you started this thread was to see if someone would offer you a decent price for your radiance so you could skip out on the ebay fees.

Again, it wasn't his intent to purchase the Radiance laptop simply to resell to the highest bidder. If that was the case, then yeah, then he's no different than ticket brokers who gobble up a bunch of sports tickets to resell with a high markup. He appears to have second thoughts and now wants to sell it. I don't have a problem with him selling it for "market value". I wouldn't lower my price simply to be fair to those whose orders were cancelled. He would be a great person if he did, but he wouldn't be a bad person if he didn't.

Of course, if the OP is flat out exaggerating and never intended to keep that new Radiance laptop, then he would be a bit of a d*che but that would still just be aggressive business.
