Hi everyone,
I just got my DV6000T CTO today and went ahead with installing WinXP Pro SP2 (using an academic license). But following MDesigner's Guide to disabling SATA, I ran into a problem as I started my driver installation.
Apparently, HP has stopped putting all it's drivers (at least WinXP ones) in the swsetup folder. In fact, during my reinstallation, I couldn't even use a single driver from that folder. All of mine came from other users or hp.com.
So here's how I got everything installed and working. Please do it in this order as this is the order I know worked for me. Try to restart whenever it tell you to.
1.) To install SATA:
- Do what MDesigner says and disable it in your BIOS, then install WinXP.
- But when you want to do the driver update he suggests, you will not find anything in swsetup/hdd (it doesn't exist), so go to this link , and get the sata driver from the link posted by JadedRaverLA. Here's the actual file link.
- Extract it and do the driver update thing again, point to have disk to one of the two files in the folder (I chose "iaahci.inf")
- Choose Intel 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller
- Restart and turn SATA back on in BIOS (If you don't , you'll get a BSOD at bootup)
2.) To install video:
-To speed things along (generic video drivers make everything slow) install the video driver now (I'm using the Geforce Go 7400)
-Execute the setup file for the tweaksrus driver ( link here)
Note: LaptopVideo2Go drivers are good too, but I also suggest starting with HP's stock drivers for stability reasons.
3.) To install the Intel drivers:
- For me the prompt to install the Intel ICH7 Family drivers didn't show itself, so I had to do it manually
- Do the setup using sp32555 (Intel Chipset Installation Utility for ICH7)
4.) To install audio drivers:
- For me I couldn't just point to swsetup and have WinXP select it all for me, I had to do it manually, and besides the drivers in that folder are for Vista only
- Do the setup using sp33867 (Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio)
- It will prompt you to install modem and audio driver, ignore and use setup for both
- Do setup using sp34204 (Conexant High Definition Audio Driver)
- Do setup using sp33890 (Conexant HDAUDIO Soft Data Modem with SmartCP)
Then it's pretty much routine from here:
- Do the setup using sp33604 (Ricoh 5-in-1 Card Reader Driver)
- Do the setup using sp35414 (HP 1.3 MegaPixel Webcam Software Driver)
- Do the setup using link (Synaptics Touchpad)
- Do the setup using link (Intel PRO/Wireless Drivers)
- Do the setup using sp33574 (Intel PRO/1000 Network Adapter Driver)
- Do the setup using sp32883 (Software and Drivers for HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth Wireless)
- Only unknown device left now should be for the quicklaunch button, it's up to you if you want to install it.
After this, you should have everything fully installed and ready to go. Remember that I am only using my build as a model, but I basically got everything but the tuner so it should be a good reference point.
Cheers,
Ruibing

Thanks for taking the trouble.

No problem, I just found this missing on this forum. ^^

Why should I take all these steps? Can´t I just format my HD and install the Windows xp as I do in my desktop?

Anyone have the drivers for the AMD version (DV6000Z)? I'm particularly looking for XP compatible QuickPlay installer files (I was told they were unavailable from HPs site). If anyone has the QuickPlay installer files (XP) and can share them, please PM me.

Thanks for the great post -
For those following this guide, I've discovered three things recently:
1) Using Tweakrus drivers or any of 9x.x series and beyond caused memory leakage and excessive CPU usage (RPC service) and hibernation problems for me due to the nvidia control panel service. If I disabled it or used a 8x.x series driver, I was fine. I've tried both the stock HP drivers SP34044 (84.x I believe) and the last 8 series (87.25 from laptopvideo2go).
3DMark05 Score
Tweakrus (94.x, no tweaks) - 2019
HP Stock (No tweaks) - 1896
LaptopVideo2Go (Some tweaks) - 2032
Tweaking is just adjusting some settings in the advanced 3d settings for forceware, you can find guides for those anywhere. Here's my settings:
AA - off
Anisotropic - Off
Image setting - Performance
Vertical Sync - Off (performance boost)
Force mipmaps - Off
Conformant texture clamp - On
*(wildcard) Optimization - On
Triple Buffering - Off (Turn it on for performance boost with Vertical Sync on)
Negative LOD bias - Clamp
Threaded optimization - Auto
OpenGL error Reporting - Off (performance boost)
2) For those worried about the HDD driver, I also tried getting the drivers by making the floppy disks through the setup file and then got the drivers that way, they were the same (no performance boost). I didn't cheek version though, if anyone wants them, I'll upload it here as well.
3) The matrix storage driver is suppose to give a performance boost (not raid for dv6000t), and I tried both with it and without it, but for real world applications I didn't see much. But it doesn't seem to use much resource (just a active service running in the background).
Cheers,

Hey man, thats a great post!! but... I do have a problem with my SD card reader... it doesnt recognize it on XP... even if I install the correct driver, which is sp33604... is the only hardware that im missing... or I am doing something wrong???
I barely use SD memory, but you'll never know when you need it, thats why I want to install it properly... did you have the same problem at the beginning?_? -
Thanks a lot for this guide! It worked great for my dv6345t.
I only have one problem. I couldn't install the ethernet adapter driver correctly. It still appears in the list of the device manager with the "?" mark. When i select one of the 2 .inf files from the sp33574.exe (Intel PRO/1000 Network Adapter Driver), the wizard lists a lot of ethernet adapter drivers but no one seems to be the correct one. I'm a little lost trying to solve it. Anyone had this problem too?
Thanks in advance and thanks a lot to ruibing and MDesigner for writing both guides! -
Hi all,
I hope this is not a little off topics.... I just bought an HP dv9343ca (dv9000t ?) from costco and would like to wipe out Vista and install XP SP2.
Can I use the same instructions for dv6000T?Is there anything I need to be careful about during the XP installation?
Thanks -
Hi there...
Nevermind, I've found the following thread which talks about this:

@legend
I think it should be fine, but you might want to double check that you have the same chipset:
http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/cs-009245.htm
@gerakis
You might have a different ethernet adapter, like the Pro/100.
@warriormoon
So there's no unknown/uninstalled device in your device manager at all? That's a bit tricky because it either means it got misinstalled as something else (highly unlikely), a device it is dependent on has not been installed, or it is having hardware malfunctions. -
Thanks ruibing! I installed the sp33645 corresponding to the Intel PRO 100 Network Adapter Driver and it's working perfectly fine.
Thanks to all. -
Awesome guide...worked great. My only problem is that I have the dv6500t and my graphics card is the nvidia 8400 gs. Does anyone know what driver I should use for that?
-
I installed Windows XP in DV6345US model which came with vista. Everything worked well. But Intel Pro driver installation is not working well. I tried with both SP33574.exe and SP33645.exe files. Can anyone help to install a driver for Network Adapter.
Thanks in advance....

Hi! I have same problem with drivers at hp pavilion dv9310us after installing windows xp pro sp2. Can somebody give me at list a link to network drivers?
Thank's -
I have just installed XP on my DV6302tx, but I can't get the tv out to work. Under the nvidia settings there is no option for dual display and the 'fb'+'f4' combo doesnt try to switch the display. I am using Nvidia 84.xx drivers? I want to display the image on my tv through the s-video output. (I have a cable that goes from the 7pin s-video to a composite cable that I plug into an AV input).
But so far it is a no go. Has any one got this to work?
Thanks -
It must be a different chipset. Try and get the exact model's drivers by entering your serial on the HP's driver website and then downloading the XP drivers that way.

I have a DV6263cl Notebook, i tried with all the driver listed on your post, all worked, except for the webcam and the audio driver.
Ive found the webcam driver for vista and it worked.
But im going crazy with the audio driver. I tried everything.
Installed every damn driver ive found, manually selecting them although windows didnt like it. I also tried to reinstall high definition audio bus driver, but i couldnt, the setup dont start. And if i uninstall it from the device manager list it would ask for some files, but you cant tell it where to find them in a folder, cause you cant exctract the cab file. So i had to do a system restore.
Im very sad about it. Cause everything works but the audio. Also, most of the drivers say it installed successfully, it still dont work, and it says error code 39 when i go to properties.
This is how it looks like:
http://cablemodem.fibertel.com.ar/walpap/conexant.jpg
Before deleting vista´s partition i used everest to detect the driver.. it showed this, maybe it could help:
Conexant Cx20549 @ Intel 82801GBM ICH7-M - High Definition Audio Controller [B-0]
So, i dont know what to do. Buying a usb audio would do the trick, but its a shame.
Please if someone can help, i will appreciate it a lot.
Greetings from Argentina. -
I am trying to load XP on a dv6450us. I am missing audio drivers and Base System Devices and Ethernet Controller drivers for the Intel(R) 82801 PCI Bridge - 2448.
Does anyone have suggestions?
Thanks -
Got it figured out. The drivers for the dv6000t loaded fine, XP is fully functional.

Hi, Has anyone tried this on an AMD-based machine? I bought a dv6448 for my wife and she needs XP for her version of autocad for work (they won't update it to a Vista-compatible version). Anyway. it appears there might be some differences between the above procedure and that for an AMD machine. Any help or pointers?
I just found a link to the AMD-specific update thresd it's:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=82523
so I'm going to give that a try. -
hi guys

Hi ALl,
I tries to disable Native sata mode in the System Configuration tab but this option is not present in my HP Pavillion dv6000
Im really stuck.
Can you please advise what i should do? -

Hi,
Thanks to your guide I have successfully managed to change from vista to XP and very happy I did so. I have one problem though. With vista my battery would last up to 2 hours. Now with XP I'm lucky if I get a half hour off the battery. Has anyone any idea what might have caused this and how to fix?
Thanks -

I have tried miserably installing windows xp pro on a dv6000 series and it's just a pain. My laptop came originally with windows xp media center and has an amd processor with SATA hard drive. How do you disable the sata native support, I can't seem to find out how to do so. Please help.
