Havent read it yet so dunno what he says but here's the link - http://www.anandtech.com/mobile/showdoc.aspx?i=3011

They did not like the LCD too much...
-
nope
guess ill wait till LED backlights come around..
-
Yah seems he didnt like several things:
- Bad/old LCD
- Not too great performance
- Slow graphics (for gaming)
- Low battery life (with standard 6-cell)
- Slow hard drive (200gb 4200rpm)
Positives were:
- Good price
- Nice design
- Good speakers
- Works well for majority of tasks (except gaming) -
lol a 4200rpm drive? who is the idiot who configured that system for them? and of course the graphics are slow, its not a good graphics card. once again an idiot clearly configured that for them
the LCD age is weird tho.... -
I have the dv6500, and this review is so bogus. I'm not saying my system is the greatest, but it sure aint crap! The slowest possible drive, no dedicated GPU, and probably running Vista with every bell and whistle ringing.
Geewhizzz...... This guy may be the biggest hater ever, or just the dumbest! -
the 6500t they reviewed was the one with intel x3100 and a standard 6 cell battery.
-
I'm wondering if they used the build with all the hp software too... here is my take:
LCD - cant argue about this but I dont know if every dv6500t has the same screen. My screen seems nice and i dont notice off colors or grays.
Performance - I'm guessing it was slow because they just used the HP factory vista build which as we all know has a ton of crapware loaded on it. They need to do a clean build but I can understand if they dont have the time to do this for every notebook. Bottom line is the performance should be the same as any other laptop with the same processor and ram and os.
Graphics - we all know the x3100 is not for gaming yet he still tests that. If you dont game this doesnt even apply as its fine for video and aero.
Drive - he's comparing a system with a 4200rpm drive to systems with 7200rpm drive...of course PC Mark is gonna be slower. I dont know why he didnt choose the more common 5400rpm drive.
Battery life - why didnt he test with the extended 6-cell? Thats what I got and i get just about 3 hours with the Hp Recommended / Balanced power plan and a bit more than 3 with the Power Saver plan. I did notice that the Hp Recommended / Balanced power plan the cpu does seem to stay at high speeds often even when not much is running. This seems to be a vista thing. -
errr its a review machine, they get sent this from HP to review. apparently HP sent them a model with the lowest specced components hence the slow drive and graphics. anandtech may not have any say in the matter.
-
Then i agree with anandtech...the lowest specced version of the dv6500t would suck at performance and battery life. Why HP woudnt send them the highest specced version with no extra when sending to anandtech is beyond me.
-
My impression of the review was that they went into it already expecting it to be bad, because of Vista maybe, or some other bias. They made a few points about the LCD, but otherwise it's not a very even-handed review.
-
Just wondering why did you get the dv9500t but not get the 8600 graphics?
-
The review did somewhat address one question I had bouncing around, though, namely if the 200GB drive would actually improve battery life since its running at 4200 instead of 5400. I guess not! I wonder if the machine stays cooler, though, with the 4200 drive?

I'll have to check it out in the morning. Their web site is down right now. I have the DV6500T with the X3100 and it's fast enough to play Tribes2 at 50 fps. This is a good all around laptop. Of coarse the G1S will beat it for gaming. But the DV6500T is really fast after installing XP from scratch.
-
The dv6500 that they reviewed uses an AUO screen, but their note about the screen possibly being different on other dv6500 machines prompted me to check if mine was the same. According to Everest, mine instead uses an LG screen (Monitor ID LPLDB00, Manufacturer LP154WX4-TLC1, made in 2006)
-
Keep in mind that the people at Anandtech (and those who browse the site) are very savvy computer people. They expect a lot out of their products and review them as such.
-
i dont know how much the lcd displays have changed since the 6000 series notebooks. If they stayed the same, then i see where the criticism is coming from. I owned a dv6000z for a bout 2 weeks before i got rid of it because i could not bare the horribly dim screen.
For design and appearance though, i don't think they gave the hp enough credit. -
Unfortunately, if HP sent the reviewers a maxed-out computer with all the top specifications, it won't really help the average consumer that much either because the majority of them will upgrade to mid-range options. But I do agree that the review should have been completed with the 8400M GS card and not the X3100.
-
I see people here are quite quick to discredit the review when it doesn't suit them. Chances are it's a review sample from HP. And as it stands, with the config they got, well it doesn't stack up too well against the other laptops they've reviewed.
Anandtech reviews dv6500t!
