    I just dont get it...

Folks I got a HP DV5-1007tx with a 512MB 9600GT GPU and a 2.53GHz C2D CPU. For some reason my notebook is lagging on some games that went flawlessly on my previous 256MB X1600.

Like it works fine for a minute and then it just starts to bog down before clearing back up.
My initial thought would be that "Oh, maybe the requirements are just to high". But that fact is I tried Company of Heroes and World in Conflict on my 2.5 year old iMac and it went flawlessly. And just note my imac had a 2.0GHz CPU and 256 GPU.

Whats the deal here? This is my first Windows-PC, so am I missing something here? Is game performance lower on a notebook? Or do I have a hardware issue here?

    Cheers,

PS: Is there any diagnostic check I could use to see if my video card works ok?

I made the same mistake, run every sort of test you could think of over the period of 2 days, had 4 people helping and all before the penny dropped.

I'd lent the computer to a friend and they set the power saver option and didn't tell me

    Another thing to look into...

Did you use the notebook right out of the box, did you "clean" the HP install, or did you do a fresh O.S. install? A lot of major manufacturers install extra programs to pad the bottom line. Most of these are trials or scanners that are either useless or repetitive to other things that the O.S. provides. Most people need to go in and run through the program list and uninstall those programs that do not work. Then, download and install CCleaner to run and clean the registry from the broken links and files that naturally occur during installations and uninstallations.

so, what changes did you make to the power settings anyway? I'm confused, I would have thought if you're plugged in, any battery settings are overridden.

No they're not, when you set your options to power saver or balanced no matter if you run in AC or DC the setting apply. (which to me is really stupid)

Changing your Power settings is manual, unfortunately

How ironic! I use Windows XP Pro on mine and when I plug it in, it automatically switches the AC Power mode. I see it too. My screen brightness is set to 60% on battery but as soon as I plug the power cord it hits the 100% level in the AC Power mode. XP isn't dead, at least yet. :D

    Hey fellas,

Just a Q about the swSetup folder during a "Clean" install, where should I copy that? And does it have ALL the drivers in it?
    Cheers,
