The estimated order date has changed from "mid November" to "early December" I noticed today during my daily check of http://www.hp.com/go/windowsvistaupgrade. This is starting to remind me of the stories aftermarket car part manufacturers spout off in forums to anxiously waiting customers...![]()

While you're taking about the order page, the time frame of.. it being push back....
Heck I don't have to check the that page...
Once it does start shipping, is available you will see bunchs of posts with all kinds of problems...

I can't wait to get it.. so its available for us to Download right? or are they going to ship us an install CD? They mention a kIT?
-
From what HP told me, you have to subscribe to their service in order to be registered and eligible to get the Vista upgrade in January.
The update will be an install CD shipped to customers.

I ordered my nc8430 from a reseller on Oct 24, 2 days before the starting date. I'm thinking of altering my receipt to say Oct 26 instead of the 24th, and mailing that into HP. Anyone think there should be any kind of issue with this?

I just happened to see that "Proof of Purchase for the system. This could include a sales receipt, invoice, or packing slip. " is required to place the free upgrade order. But I have already sent those stuff back to HP to get my mail-in rebate, since I thought only S/N of my laptop is needed for upgrade. So what am I supposed to do without those proof materials?
-
On topic, while I don't think they would check, they easily could call the company you ordered from and check the order number and then find out that you bought it two days before. -
A "copy" of the sales receipt, invoice, or packing slip? -
So am I eligible for that update? I bought my notebook from reseller on 15.11.06 in the UK.
Ive look on the page and it doesnt say that I cantHas anybody from UK conntacted HP about that??

I can't wait -
I can't wait for the Vista systems to come out, I'm sick of continually seeing these old crap spec notebooks (hdd, especially memory)
-
If someone bought there notebook 2 days before the 26th, they could do what I did and return the computer and get a new one to officially be eligable. The Vista install "kit" will come with 2 discs supposedly, one with the operating system you qualify for, and one with updated drivers and utilities for your specific model.

They tell you specifically not to do that. The only original you should have to part with is your UPC code from the box, and that you should make a copy of before mailing in. -
why dont you call hp and ask for an upgrade since you were only 2 days early... Just give em a hard time, youll eventually get it. -
So is the upgrade free? Someone above said you had to register for a service, does anyone know how much that costs??
I'm just trying to figure out how it makes sense financially for HP to go to all the trouble to give away free Vista upgrade CD's? -
This isnt HP's initiative but rather Microsofts(thats the reason why every other manufacturer is offering them and they all begin the free upgrade on the same day), so HP is not likely to be financially impacted by giving away these free DVD's.
Another 2 weeks til we can order Vista upgrades
