So I bought a 6930p earlier and it had the infamous CPU whine and the roaring DVD drive. It also came with Intel/Windows stickers that were stuck on slanted and dust all over the touchpad.

Now I returned it to get the 8530p, and the earlier problems with the build quality were all gone, including the CPU whine. But now I have a new problem, LCD with grainy images.

The LCD is made by AUO with a model tag of AUO197B. I couldn't find any information on this panel but the grainy filter over the LCD is really making me dizzy. Its basically on par with the Dell 2007WFP grainy filter. The AUO is a WSXGA+ which is a 15.4" 1680X1050 resolution. Has anyone else noticed the grain issue of the LCD? Even the 6930p's AUO LCD did not have such a problem.

EDIT: On further note, PC wizard reports the LCD being manufactured in the 1st week of 2007! It seems like they pulled some of their 8510p LCDs to be used in the 8530p.

Could you, please, tell me how to identify the manufacturer and the model of the LCD (on 8530p)?

    Thank you

You can either use PC Wizard or HP's Performance Tuning Framework. It's listed under the "graphics interface"

I've identified the LCD as AUO B154WS01 V9. Testing it under the Lagom LCD test (google it) it seems to suffer from severe flickering and slight banding.

i don't know if that would be part of warranty.... not sure ... but i can agree with you on them sticking sucky displays on purpose. they probably are clearing them out( cheap of em) for better quality lcds to come. i think im gonna get an 8530p, but if i got a grainy one id probably ask for a replacement because i havent seen alot of complaints by other owners, just to be fair. if that wasnt possible id look elsewhere after i got my refund.

could you show me a pic of the grainy lcd if you are able =D
