I plan on upgrading my dv2000z (dv2171cl) from the stock 1gb to 2 gb. I've searched and found many people had problems upgrading. My notebook came stock with pc2- 4300 533mhz Samsung ram. I'm thinking of going with g.skill 533mhz, or should I spend the extra 3 dollars for the 677? If I understand correctly my computer will clock it down to 533 anyways? If you have successfully upgraded your dv, lemme know what brand and speed you went with. Thanks

The computer will downclock the 667MHz memory down to 533MHz only if you are pairing them together as in 1 stick of 667MHz memory along with 1stick of 533MHz memory. But if you are replacing both your memories then go with 667MHz sticks and the system is capable of running it at that speed.

AMD CPUs are picky about memory, so I generally recommend Crucial DDR2-667 SODIMMs as the safest choice. Check mwave.com and newegg.com. HP was shipping DDR2-667 with their AMD notebooks, guess they've started getting cheap on us.

HP has the appropriate recommended specifics for memory sticks. You can buy a 2gb x2 to make it 4gb. I bought a 2gb from Trancends' web site and the prices are reasonable now.

I believe the early units in the series were shipping with DDR2-533, which this unit may be from.
