I have been thinking about buying a new HP DV6000 or the DV9000 series now for about a month. I am real close too pulling the credit card out. But everytime I do some more research I don't know anymore. I hear mostly bad things about the computers and the problems the people are having and the horrible customer service. I am getting worried about buying now.![]()
Anybody have any good storys they can tell me too change my mind...
Thanks,

had my dv9000 since December, everything seems fine so far
if u really think about it, of course all u hear is bad things cuz well if ur system was working fine, what wud you have to write about in a forum that provides support lol -
As for HP Europe/Switzerland:
Have an NC6400 since January. Fine machine. Ordered it on the phone after the very competent sales guy was able to answer all my detailed tech questions. Thing arrived at my door less than 24 hours later, no delivery charges.
2 months later, turns out the battery is faulty. Quick call to the costumer service, replacement battery arrives at my door less than 24 hours later. Sadly, someone messed up and I got a 37Wh instead of the 55Wh version. So another quick call and another less-than-24 hours later the correct battery got delivered to my door, incl. a prepaid postal charge so I can return the 37Wh battery to them.
1st battery got sent from a german warehouse, 2nd one from the Netherlands. 1st got delivered by FedEx (iirc), 2nd one by UPS. All free of charge to me so you can calculate it yourself how much money HP just spent just to make me happy.
The original sales person spoke (swiss-)german fluently. Phone call was ~10 minutes.
Of the 4 service persons I spoke to, 3 spoke german fluently, 1 near-fluently. All had some serious accents yet all semed to clearly understand what I said. All were very patient, very friendly, didn't try to put the blame on me but almost instantly ordered the replacement part. Both phone calls were ~5 minutes.
It seems to me that most complaints on this forum come from people who bought consumer line products. It may be, that business products - apart from the better build quality - just get handled differently during support. You get what you pay for, I guess. To me it was clear long before deciding on a model or brand, that I'd only get a business-line laptop. -
The majority of people who post on these forums are experiencing problems, but this doesn't mean that everyone gets problems. What you don't get here is the thousands of people who have HP laptops that work flawlessly. I bought a DV6000 in December and it hasn't given me -any- trouble whatsoever...it's simply a superb laptop.

As seen in my signature, I have a dv6275us--a consumer model. I've used it daily for a couple of months doing research and writing at my office, carrying it to a grade school where I teach part time and lecture using PowerPoint, and using it at home for web surfing and more research and writing. I have been very pleased. Everything works as advertised.
As posted above, you typically read complaints because folks whose computers are working well aren't out searching for forums where they can get help to solve some problem or where they can just vent.
Like you, I researched the different computers and read reviews and user comments. I ordered the dv6000t because I wanted a bit more mobility than the dv9000t offered.
I wouldn't hesitate to order.
Best,

Mine is great. None of the problems talked about here. This is a great site for keeping up to date, but as mentioned, also a great site to try and get help with issues. For every one complaint there must be hundreds or thousands of non-issue machines out there.
Lovin, mine. -

With respect, I disagree about the business versus consumer points. This is my third consumer model over the past 10 years, and I have had no problems with any (1 Toshiba and 2 HP's). If you handle them with some care, consumer models will function well. More consumer-model complaints are heard, IMO, because more consumer models are purchased and many of those perhaps by students who provide them with something less than tender loving care.

With respect, I am a student... And the very first HP laptop I bought 3 years ago was a zv6000 it didn't have lightscribe, even though it should have. Back then no one fixed HP laptops in Finland so it got sent to the UK. (Took 7 days round trip) It came back with a different burner type, but still no lightscribe and didn't even fit the laptop correctly. So it took another 7 days round trip before I got the correct drive in the laptop that now had scratchs. Which was clever because I hadn't even had a chance to play with it really apart from turn it and check everything worked. (For some reason the EU side of HP isn't willing to just send out drives like they do in the US). I ended up getting a 70€ Targus bag as comp from HP.
As for my second laptop, just read the customer care tag in my sig.
I've been using computers since I was 7, I started out on a Sinclair ZX81 and worked my way through "True" IBM PC XTs. Which are still all working.
I'm now in my early 30s. If it wasn't for the fact that I know EU law, I would have been screwed with all the "info" that HP were telling me were my rights. Yet, my tutors who have HP laptops get replacement powerpacks etc directly from HP within less than 24 hours. The only difference is, they have business machines.
The only reason I bought HP at all, is because being a student with a wife and two kids, I didn't have the cash to splash out on better machines. I needed the raw power because I study the adobe packages and 3d max, etc.
The both times I've had a HP notebook I've had to deal with HP through the complaints department to get anything done. And they've always ended up worse off than just sending me a new replacement machine.
So, no, when I hear people who've had problems with HP customer care, then I know what they've been through because I been through it twice. That's not just bad luck, that's bad business practise by HP. -
I bought a dv1000 back in 2005, and it's without doubt the best notebook I've owned.
It worked without problems until the summer of 2006, when I screwed up and dropped it. Luckily, I have HP's Accidental Protection Plan for it, and they repaired it completely without 10 days, and sent it back with a bigger hard drive, upgraded DVD-RW drive (had a DVD-ROM drive before), and it's worked fine ever since.
My dv2000t has also been running fine since August of 2006, and it still looks and preforms like new. The new Imprint Finish on HP's dv lines is probably the best material invented for a product is quite sometime. Yes, finger prints can be problematic sometimes, but as I say, finger prints are easily removed, scratches aren't.
My experience has been nothing but great with HP, and I bet you'll be more than happy owning an HP computer, Sheldon07.

Spaceman2004,
Sorry to hear about your problems with HP. My earlier two were used as a student, also, but as an older student pursuing grad degrees (finally finished that PhD dissertation on '03). I just haven't had any problems with consumer notebooks.
And, too, I haven't had to deal with HP customer support. I read posts which related both good and bad experiences. Frankly, companies need to realize that good customer care is usually what sets computer makers apart from one another.

Thanks guys, I am glad too hear the good things about HP. I do under stand that there are thousands of notebooks out there that are working and people usally only come too these sites for help with the problems. I guess I have just been here too long and only have the bad thoughts in my head.

My first laptop de HP zv6000 I bought a year a go for 850 euro. And in this year it has had a tough life! I am an student and even though I take good care of my laptop i did drop is once on my desk and then to the floor. Laptop still worked and no scratches or anything. And I love this laptop it works good and I of my opinion is build to last. The only reason I bought a new laptop the HP dv9000 is because I can buy cheap in the US. After searching long my opnion is that every laptop brand has good and bad things. and when you have bad luck you get a crappy laptop and crappy service. But most people I know that own a HP love it. And for your choice between the dv9000 and dv6000 if you do not need to travel a lot go for the dv9000.

Theres nothing good to say about HP.
My dv5030us will be my first and only HP system. Died after a year of an easy life sitting on a desk and not getting bumped around. Had numerous problems. System died just a few days before warranty was up. HP didn't fix the system right. Customer service has been an absolute nightmare to deal with.
