I am considering either the HP 6910p or the Lenovo T61. I would really like to hear opinions on the 6910p from people that actually have one or have used one. Specifically regarding build quality, fan noise, display, sound and battery life. Anything not liked about it? Thanks for any help.

I second this. I am disappointed that notebookreview.com does not have any reviews of HP business notebooks.

I don't think HP has started shipping many 6910p's out yet. Since NBR is dependent upon users submitting reviews voluntarily, you can't really expect much reviews until it is widely available in the marketplace.
You might be interested in my nc6400 review since the 6910p is similar with minor cosmetic differences (touch sensitive volume controls, no groove for smart card, SIM card slot underneath battery instead of keyboard), Santa Rosa chipset, DX10 graphics card (the X2300 and X1300 should be pretty similar in terms of performance, but the X3100 GMA should be better than the 950) and addition of Firewire port.
Otherwise, I expect the screen, build quality, design and other features to be pretty similar.

^ He already read your review, don't worry. I took care of that. :D

    Just a detail:
None of the GPUs offered with the HP 6910p are DX10.

The dedicated card can be the X2300 or HD 2300 (if it's mistaken like the case with HP 8510p), but both of them are DX9, the GMA X3100 as well.

As for the screen, it's 200 nits according to the specifications (if it's true). Afaik, both the T61 and D630 have 220 nits screens. So, the screen would be my only concern...but I guess we will find out how it is soon.

Thank you for that review Chrixx! How is the quality of it's 'Trackpoint' compared to Lenovo's? And do you think the keyboard is close to Thinkpad quality? I would purchase a Lenovo, but the 4 cell battery and off centered screen have forced me to look else where.

I've just ordered a 6910p. Hopefully should get it in the weekend or early next week.
    Specs:
    T7500 2.2Ghz
    2GB RAM
    WXGA
    Intel Graphics X3100
    120GB 5400rpm
    DVDRW
    4965 ABGN
    BTooth
    Vista Business
6 Cell + my current 8 cell travel battery.

Can't wait for it to arrive. When I get it, I'll give a quick review and compare it to my nx8220.

did you customize this system? on the us website, there isnt an option yet for the intergrated graphics, and all the smart buy options have discrete graphics.

NZ$2670 or there abouts. The laptop would usually come with just the 1GB stick, but there is a promotion on at the moment with an extra 1GB free.
They only come pre-configured in NZ, and you can't get them direct from HP either, but they're in stock where I got it :)

The only model with the ATI graphics in NZ costs NZ$3k+. Before they were offering an XBOX 360 core console, so I was going to go with that model, but decided against it. I want the extra battery life and I don't game.

I just got my 6910p Model # GH719AW#ABA. This was the only model with the WXGA+ Hi-Res Screen. Only draw back is I got a smaller 80GB Drive, but it is a 7200RPM Drive.

Laptop performs very well. I have it with 2.2 Ghz 7500 CPU and 1GB RAM.

    Running Vista Business

Battery life about 3 hours and change, which is to be expected with a 7200RPM Drive.

Screen is very nice and crisp and bright. I dont love wide screens in general, but this is hi-res so it compensates.

The new HP toolbar above the keyboard is all touchable and is kind of interesting.

Biometric Fingerprint reader is also great.

The one thing that I have not seen form HP yet is the Light above screen, which seems to be a thing with Thinkpads. I work at night alot in my bedroom and could use that.

Superikey, would you be so kind and elaborate a bit on the qualities of the display on your notebook? Apparently, you seem to be the only one around here being able to get the higher-res WXGA+ screen. As there were frequent complaints regarding the WXGA+ screens on nc6400 (which is a predecessor to 6910p), I wanted to find out if there's any improvement.

[-] do you notice any "graininess" on light surfaces (i.e. sparkling effect on purely white or grey backgrounds)?
[-] is the backlighting even? is there any light leak (especially at the bottom of the screen)?
[-] what do you think of the vertical viewing angles? (considering normal viewing distance, do you find colours remain uniform across the screen or is there a visible difference in brightness and contrast between the upper and lower parts of the screen?)
[-] what brand is the LCD in your notebook?

If it’s not too complicated for you, do you think it’d be possible to take a few pictures of the screen from various angles and post them here? Thanks a lot. I’m having my eyes set on a similarly configured machine. :)

I'm waiting on a 6910p demo unit from HP at the moment. When it comes in I can give you some feedback as well. I've had the 6710b for a few days now.
