I have an hp pavilion zx5078cl that is officially outside of the warrantee period. So I am thinking about paying for some valuable upgrades. I am still using the default 4200 rpm 60 GB hard drive that came with this configuration. I have been looking at Hitachi/IBM's 7200 rpm 60 GB hard drive as the ideal replacement. However, a quick trip over to Hitachi/IBM's website has me thinking about this new 100 GB hard drive.

Has anyone used the Travelstar 7K100 in their hp notebook? Would this newer hard drive be recognized by my hp notebook's aging BIOS? What do you think?

Not yet, but it should work. zipzoomfly.com has been getting those and Seagate's 7200.1 series drives in stock lately. The 80GB models are reasonably priced, the 100GB models less so. My 60GB Hitacki 7K60 drive has been great and the newer drives are supposed to be quieter and cooler.
