Ive come across a few posts here and there in the forums concerning this new model from HP Compaq but they all seem to refer to machines with the lower-res WXGA screen. Does anyone here actually have this notebook with the higher-res WXGA+ screen (1440x900)? Id like to hear about your observations and evaluation of the LCD panel. Id be particularly interested in the manufacturer and visual qualities of the panel. Any input is welcome.
To give a little background: I used to have the previous model, namely nc6400, and Id have been completely satisfied with it (very solid machine, nice design, strong build) if it werent for its appalling WXGA+ panel (made by AUO). Despite being plentifully bright, it suffered from the sparkling effect (too much anti-glare coating), had severely limited vertical viewing angles and huge backlight bleeding at the bottom. This made it impossible to use the notebook for prolonged periods of time (at least my eyes strongly objected). So I got rid off it a while ago and I need a new notebook now.
Last week I visited Lenovo Center here in town and had the opportunity to get my hands on T61 14 widescreen model with WXGA+ screen. I dont know, who manufactured that particular panel, but it was significantly better compared to what I had on my nc6400. I felt quite comfortable about the screen: absolutely no sparkling/grainy surfaces and slightly better viewing angles.
So especially a comparison of WXGA+ panels in both T61 and HP 6910p would be highly appreciated, as these are the notebooks Im trying to decide between at the moment. Thanks a lot.

I'm not sure whether anyone from this forum has the WXGA+ HP model...haven't heard, so I can't comment nor I know what suppliers they use at the moment.
As for the T61, they are two: Samsung and LG-Philips, the LG-Philips is the preferred screen and considered 'good' but if you happen to get the Samsung you will hate your notebook most probably, at least most people do...of course, it's personal preference at the end.
Norrow viewing angles are something normal for these screens but you know that and I remember some of your posts, I didn't like the previous HP's screen as well...however, there were other people who were fine with that. -
Taking my hat off to you... what a memory you've got!
The T61, which I saw at Lenovo Centre, was quite satisfactory in that respect. But from various reasons I'd still prefer 6910p, if I knew there was an improvement.

Dunno...wait... hopefully, someone has managed to get that thing and answer you. The thing is that HP didn't offer the WXGA+ option at the beginning for some reason...now they do though.
Have you considered the Dell Latitude D630 as another alternative? -
Dell wouldn't do... first there's no WXGA+ option (don't know if it's temporary or just country-specific), second it's more expensive than similarly configured T61 or 6910p and I somehow don't like Dell anyway.
I'm left with a choice between Lenovo T61 (7664-18G, the only model available here with dedicated graphics and WXGA+) or a CTO HP 6910p.
Any comments on the quality of WXGA+ screens used in HP 6910p?
