I'm in a bind. My DV1000 went dead as a doornail. No joy whatsoever from pressing the power switch. A hardware problem.

Even though I bought it less than a year ago, I may have to pay for it myself. Any idea what this might cost? HOw does HP figure out repair costs?

As for why I may have to pay for a in-warranty repair, it's because HP assigns a warranty expiration date to a machine when it is sold to a retailer, not when it is bought. Evidently my sat on the shelf for a while, so the HP system says that it is out of warranty. So the onus is on me to prove that the purchase date. Hopefully I'll find it when I return from my trip, but until then I'm out of luck with HP who won't provide any assistance until I can prove my bona fides.

Any ideas about what this may cost me or how to find out would be appreciated.
