I really need my laptop as soon as possible for work. I'm stuck to taking handwritten loan applications right now and I so badly need to start using my origination software.

I ordered my machine from OD/techdepot.

When did you order it? I ordered mine on 4/15 (at OD) and they said it would take 2 weeks. I personally think it'll take longer. I checked the status and it is accepted but I don't have the tracking number yet. I don't know when will they issue the tracking number (maybe when they ship it).

I ordered mine last Thursday, April 14. Mine also shows "accepted" but it still has the "in process" icon next to the order.

I hope it gets shipped quick. I need a laptop badly. [ :(]

Mine must be on the same shipment as yours. Does yours give 2 tracking numbers also? Mine is listed as 2 shipments, can't really figure out why, but I saw someone else had the same thing.

I received my laptop today... the 2nd package probably won't make it to you. My 2nd package was shipped to Memphis and it stayed there... was signed for and everything.

I did receive everything that I ordered in the one package.

The speakers on the laptop don't appear to be the Harmon Kardons... I also have 2 dead pixels [ :(] Not sure what to do about that as I keep reading that HP only fixes if it has 7. Maybe return it? Any suggstions?

hmm... didn't somebody got their laptop that was ordered from OD already?? maybe they have some inputs as of what the 2nd package might be??? is it the extra battery??? but if it is, it still doesn't explain why it's not being sent to my house!![ :(!]

CRUZR, I take it you are talking about the 2 year or 3 year warranty you purchased from OD, correct?? not the one that came with the laptop 1 year??

oops CRUZR, nevermind my question regarding the warranty, now, so if the screen has dead pixel, then we are screwed if we didn't buy the OD warranty?

I too got my laptop today. Two days earlier than they stated on FedEx site. I have not opened the box yet.

If I got a brand new laptop and 1 pixel is dead they would be replacing it. You don't buy something new and have any problem and it not be corrected. That's just not right!

I also bought the contract at Office Depot and the manager said they would fix any problem even if it were 1 pixel. I specifically asked what was and was not covered. If I drop it in the lake as long as I get it back to the store they will fix or replace it, per the manager.

i thought the included hp 1 year warranty covered any damages. i know for sure that the addition warranty for $100 includes anything.

same here; im going to be pissed if i get 1 dead pixel. unless it's in the very bottom right corner [)]

but really, what's the usual manufacture defect with dead pixels? is it common? i remember i head 2 dead pixels last year on an lcd i returned... Also some pixels were tinted green, most likely from a magnet. i dont like defects.......

CRUZR: I agree... spending 1000+ dollars and the product not being perfect is a problem. I just emailed TechDepot's customer service to checkout my options. Hopefully they respond quickly. I might explore their warranty if they will cover dead pixels...

As for the second package... here are my tracking numbers..

    687793710016 - Laptop
    687796556630 - 2nd package
    http://www.fedex.com

Like I said, everything I ordered came in the laptop package... maybe the other is some sort of confirmation or customs work... I have no clue.

Well.. just pressed lightly on one of the problem pixels and it went away. The other one is still there and it's not going anywhere. It's on the left hand side of the screen right next to the first column of icons one would normally have on their desktop. Against a black background the pixel is red. Snapped a couple of pics but have no hosting.

I'm still unhappy with even one dead pixel. I'm going to wait to hear back from TechDepot (supposed to respond to emails in 24hours) then decide what's next. Still searching all over trying to find out what others have done in in this instance.

    dang, this sounds bad~~~~

if I remember correctly, I believe the sales person in Office Depot said only the warranty that's purchased through OD will cover the dead pixel, now, I am not sure about HP's......

My friend had an Compaq R3000Z he ordered about an year ago, he never had any problem, nor any dead pixel on arrival.... but man... the more time I spent here, the more worried I am about dead pixel on my screen[xx(]

Not sure we have too much to worry about. I have had a couple of laptops and a 4 lcd monitors and none of them have a bad pixel. At work, each of us has 2 lcd monitors and I have yet to see or here about a dead pixel. Not that there isnÂ’t one, IÂ’m sure I could go searching and find a one, I would think, but I donÂ’t think we are all going to have bad pixels all over the place.

BTW, I opened the package and my laptop is plugged in and charging the battery. Which it would charge faster!

Have to mention that they messed up my order on the zx6000.

I ordered quite a few of the extras including 1 extra 12-cell battery. I go and open the box and the first small box I open is empty, the next small box I open has a 12-cell battery a 6.8 AH one. I get down to the next box with the all the CDÂ’s and transformer etcÂ… There I see two more batteries. The first one is a SERIES MODEL: HSTNN-IB04 (same as the first one) and the other is a SERIES MODEL: HSTNN-DB03. The last one is only a 6.0 AH.

I lucked out and got an extra battery. ThatÂ’s at least a $65.00 in the pocket as that was what they were charging when I ordered the laptop. At their web site, they are quite a bit more.

    Lucky me,
    Gary

Those batteries(6.8AHr) might not be the correct ones. Here's the part numbers from the HP Parts store.

    383963-001 Battery pack - 6Ahr, 12-cell lithium-ion (Li-Ion) - Rechargeable $220.00

    383965-001 Battery pack - 4.4Ahr, 8-cell lithium-ion (Li-Ion) - Rechargeable $190.00

Does the manual list info on the batteries?

I was kind of suspicious about Techdepot since I heard about the deal, I mean, it is kind of strange that they were able to ship those "custom" notebooks out way faster than HP's HQ site. Maybe they had some leftover product?? Intermediaries always seem to make dealing w/ tech. problems a little more of a hassle than going right to the source...so far, HP's cust. service has been exceptional in catering to my cancelled orders and satisfaction, hopefully TechDepot will be the same, good luck w/ those dead pixels guys- hope they get that nonsense fixed for you, that's like a new car with a little scratch on it!

OK I just checked my status. Its now in Los Angeles hopefully it will go out for delivery today. That's pretty fast shipping since considering yesterday it was in China. Cant' wait, and hopefully I won't have any dead pixels.

For those who have received theirs, could you comment on the build quality? Is the hinge for the screen loose or tight? How does the keyboard feel? Those who got the ATI Radeon 200M, did you also get your 6 in 1 media reader and firewire port?

I just got mine. No dead pixels, but it seems the mouse pad isn't working (I already tried turning it on/off so don't bother with that suggestion). I'm going see if its a software issue otherwise I guess its going back, too bad since the screen is perfect.

you should be able to adjust the sensitivity from the control panel, the Synaptics Touchpad driver utility should let you set that just fine.

well, I just ran the laptop from about 3 hrs on AC, the fan is not loud at all, but again, maybe I was wrong, because I was only browsing and play DVD for about an hour, I didn't get to try out the game yet, because those 2 freaking dead pixels are so annoying!![ :(!]

But the good news is that, after I turned off the laptop, I touched the bottom of the laptop, it's not hot at all, I think it's below luke-warm[ :p] me likey. Now only if they will fix my dead pixels....[^]

Im willing to bet that techdepot had some "customized" notebooks sitting around, waiting to be sent out- that distributor seems awfully suspicious with dead pixels and all on more than one account...glad I ordered from HP...

I just noticed that Best Buy had a special going on for a zv6000 with an Athlon 64+ chip. So I don't think it's just costco/od/techdepot that are rolling out good offers.

I doubt there's any difference in quality, I mean let's be serious they all come from China. The Sony PSP was a nightmare when it was plagued with dead pixels.

HP.com will usually charge more for their products than what you can get elsewhere. Same is true for their printers, I bought my HP all in one unit for $150 from Staples when HP was selling it for $199.

    On the way....
    HP Pavillion zv6000
    AMD Sempron 3000+ 1.8GHZ
    512 Mb (2x256)
    128 Mb ATI 200M
    DVD/CDR combo/40 GB 4200 rpm
Win XP Home / 8 cell batt

    Current beater: iBook 600 Mhz G3/ 384 MB / 15 GB HD / 8 MB vRam

Here is a copy of the post I just put on in the other thread...

I have no dead pixels on my laptop. I haven't really played with it yet. I have too many things going on right now but after I get some use will put a review together

I just found that the new Windows XP for the 64-bit processor will have a free upgrade from Microsoft. Instead of me typing it all out here is a link:
    http://www.tomshardware.com/hardnews/20050425_090000.html

There is a HUGE downside of changing over so read the offer carefully!!!

I am looking to get this notebook myself, but can't decide between the zd8000 and the zv6000.

The zv6000 has the Athlon64 CPU, which i like over the P4's.

But the zd8000 has the Radeon x600, where as the zv6000 has the Radeon 200m.

How good really is the 200m ? This is really the only thing that has me confused because I would rather have a really nice Video system.

The drawback to the zd8000 is that its A.) Too Dern Big, 17 inch screen is nice and all, but its too big. And B.) Its a Pentium4 system, I like AMD better.

The only thing that has me balking at the zv6000 is the video, how good is the 200m ?
