I dont plan on playing the latest & greatest games on it. Maybe a few of the older old-school games.

I will save the heavy games for my Desktop, but I plan on using this on the road, and playing games as well.

maybe some FreeSpace2, some WarCraft3, maybe some HalfLife2 of the new StarWars shooters..

do you think they would be okay on this system?

Its just that the other system is so dern big, and does not have the AMD Chips, but their graphics card stomps this one.

    Anyway, thanks for the reply!

Okay, this is TOTALLY the laptop for me.

Anyone who complains about the graphics card on this system can simply upgrade it with a MXM Card.

    Here are the details:

This Laptop, when configured with the 128mb ATI video, comes equipped with the ExpressCard54 card slot.

They will soon have a GeForce 6600 Go (256mb) adapter, that when installed, will automaticly disable the "onBoard" video, and take over as the primary video controller, thus giving everyone the best of both worlds, AMD Processor and the best graphics.

After reading the specs, I don't think the expresscard 54 has anything to do with mxm. You would need an mxm equipped motherboard with an mxm connection on your notebook to use these. I would love to be wrong though.

Actually, no .. Your both wrong.

    MXM "is" Express54...

MXM is just the name that nVidia slapped onto the the device, it is still a Express54 Card.

For example, nVidia makes all kinds of "GPU's, but the interface is AGP, or PCIe. This "MXM" uses the Express54 interface, so yes it will work.

By all means, if I don't know its broke, I can't fix it ;-)

You are not being rude/mean at all by saying that.

Now if you said - your site sucks, everything is broken - that would be rude.

PM me if you have specific issues with it.

Even if you can in fact slap in a pin-compatible vid card -- chances are, you should not expect your Go6800 with a TDP of 25W to work in a laptop with a 10W TDP envelope.

    cheers,

Does Tech Depot / Office Depot have an online chat where I can get an update? I'd rather not wait on hold to talk to someone via phone. I'm trying to be patient, but no order status updates (still 'in process' with no tracking info available) for my order placed on April 16 seems ridiculous. It has been more than 3 weeks already.

Hp also doesn't charge tax for most states, & you'll be in a thousandtimes better position with them if you receive a couple of dead pixels...They recently confirmed to me that they will replace the notebook at their cost with expedited delivery/build-time if this does occur.

I just received mine today. I ordered a customized model on 4/20 directly from HP. It shipped from China on 4/7 so it got here pretty quick. The DV4000 I ordered for my wife took a week when it shipped. If you go and configure one you can see the estimated ship date change depending on what options you choose. I ordered the AMD 4000+, so I think it's what took so long. Configuring one with the AMD 4000+ now jumps the date from 5/18 to 5/31.

Not the zv6000, but I ordered a custom dv4000 on 5/2. Original build/ship date estimate was 5/31 but lo and behold, today I got an email that it's shipped. According to FedEx, it's on the move in China! If HP is smart, they're estimating longer lead times than they need so they can deliver earlier.

i just called tech depot. of course they never responded to my email from yesterday a.m. even though they guarantee a response within 24 hours. got through to a guy who was fairly helpful but not all that personable. he said HP tells them my 2 laptops will be shipped (or was it 'built'?) on May 16. usually 3-5 days after that before customer receives them. assuming he meant 'business days' (i.e., Mon-Fri), I would expect to have this laptop around May 23. This is 5+ weeks from my order date, and that's getting into 'the retailer should do something for me' territory, IMO. the guy on phone said 'these are office depot orders' so i guess tech depot plays no role in handling any sort of issues or complaints?! seems a little strange. by adding another company, albeit a subsidiary, Office Depot seems to have made it easy to play the shell game when trying to pin down who is to blame or who is responsible for making things right with the customer. the guy said my best bet would be to check with the store mgr. not sure how far i would get with the mgr, since i already got free shipping on these 2 laptops-- although he may not know that since he wasn't at the store when they refunded my shipping.

any thoughts? should i just accept the good deal on my 2 laptops and keep my mouth shut, or am i entitled to some sort of bone, however small it may be, from office depot for the trouble? the part i really don't appreciate is being charged on purchase date and not receiving merchandise for 5+ weeks. if it had been 9 business days as per the normal OD guideline, that would have been no big deal. but $2,100 is a good chunk of change for me to be out with nothing to show for it til 5+ weeks later.

also, the tech depot guy said when they send the orders to HP, that HP does not seem to build them in any particular order and he does not know why. E.g. people who ordered a couple weeks before you, don't receive their machine until after you, etc. this it seems like we already have learned based on the comments from people on this site.

also, he mentioned that 2600-2700 of the zv6000 orders went on backorder (not sure what qualifies as a 'backordered' order) because of the great promotion office depot was running on this unit recently.

ok here is just an update on my shipping, cuz i thought this was unusually fast.

yesterday morning I got an email from fedex that my laptop had been shipped (R4000). It said:

    May 10, 2005 11:07 a.m. Left Fedex Origin Location

and I would receive it by Monday, the 16th. Today I got an delivery attempt.

    May 11, 2005 10:03 Delivery Attempt.

Um.. I was not expecting this laptop till later this week or next. Just wondered if anyone else had this experience.
