I just got an HP Pavilion dv7-1273cl and was wondering if there is any reason NOT to reflash from F.23 to F.25? It's funny that HP Update Manager does not list the update, but HP.com does. Otherwise this laptop is a great machine. Working without any problems (so far). :)

Drivers and BIOS updates are shown by the HP Update Manager for your particular system. Just because there's an update shown on HP.com or somewhere else doesn't necessarily mean that the update is intended for your configuration. Of all problems that happen, this is the one concept that most users fail to understand, and the one that usually gets them in trouble once they start updating drivers or BIOS just because there's an update - but not because it's certified for use on their particular system configuration.

If the BIOS update on HP.com IS for your system configuration, but not on your system's Support & Drivers page (trust it before trusting the update manager) it's either not certified for use on your system yet or it hasn't been posted. You can check by looking at other HP sites for your system around the world - they're not interconnected and sometimes you'll find updates for your system that are certified and posted for download on other HP Support pages when they're not on your own. Check UK, Hong Kong, and other English-speaking sites.

To bypass your Update Manager, get your system Product # from the label under your system (PRODUCT, NOT MODEL #) and enter it into the Product Number field at this HP link: http://tinyurl.com/4bwrat

Once you get to the Support Page for your system configuration, click on the Software and Driver Updates link, then go through to look for the updates that have been certified and posted for your system. As I said, check the other English Speaking sites as well as they don't all update at the same time.

If it's not listed for your system (BIOS update, driver update or otherwise) it's always a risk if you use an update from somewhere else because it hasn't been certified for use with your particular system configuration (unless it's specifically listed as a generic update, e.g., Intel updates). Only updates that have been certified for use on your particular system & configuration are posted on the update page.

Thanks, I neglected to mention that my system is listed on the Support page, what you explain is exactly why I post this thread.
I'm wondering if anyone else has taken the leap. :)

I have, I haven't noticed any adverse side effects. I installed it hoping that it would magically cool the computer down a bit. No luck though.
