I've been trying to find an official nc8430 battery benchmark for both 6-cell and 9-cell. Does anyone know where I can find it?

Also, does the 9-cell stick out like in some other machines?

Is 6 cell sufficent for mobile use or is 9-cell a MUST? Thanks all

Well, first off the battery for the nc8430 is an 8-Cell. There are no other options available for the primary battery; but the primary battery does not stick out from the rest of the case. On my (somewhat intensive) test, I got 2:50...but it could easily be streched to 3:15 or 3:30.

That being said, there are two options for secondary batteries, but both raise the machine up at an angle (the same angle that the docking station creates). These batteries could get you anywhere between 5-10 hours of battery life.

If you want a better idea of how it all looks...check out my review (link in my sig). The picture of the notebook on the docking station shows the exact angle that the secondary batteries would create. My notebook also came with the 8-Cell battery that you're asking about as well.

Actually, I believe one of those batteries is a primary, while the other is a secondary, which acompanies the primary.

And my nx9420 gets nearly 4 hours on 8 cell, ambient light sensor on, wireless on, web browsing. And it's a 17" too. Kinda stinks that you only get 3.

Where can I buy the secondary batteries? you see.. I am not buying the laptop from HP directly, but from CompuSmart which is a canadian vendor. HP.ca is kinda weird.

Someone else please chime in on this one...

You can try pulling the part number from HP.ca, and googling it for vendors. There is nothing wrong with getting the laptop from somewhere else, and then buying parts from HP (as long as you're okay with it that is).

MGS...yes, the secondary battery works along with the primary battery. There is a second power port on the bottom of the notebook that the secondary battery plugs into.

I'm not so sure why I get less of a battery life. I have more RAM, and a faster HDD...which could be part of it. The other part might be that I just pushed it a little too hard. That 2:50 WAS with reinstalling some programs, rebooting the machine, and some HDD intensive work...at that 2:50 doesn't include boot times. But yea, I'm a little jealous :D!

I don't know about "official" benchmarks but I get around 3 hours per charge with blue-tooth turned off. My use is centered around setting up and refining wireless LAN's and WAN's

I forgot to mention that my 8430 is a 2.0 Core Duo with 1 gb of ram and a 60 gb hd. The battery is the standard 6 cell variety.

6-cell? I thought the default was 8 cell!

Also, did you guys dim your screen? It would greatly help to lower the brightness. Also turn off wifi

I pulled out the battery for my nc8430...it is an 8 Cell. Also, HP Spec Sheet.

My WiFi was on, LCD brightness two or so notches from the brightest, and got 2:50 with the nc8430 in my sig.
