I have the DV4000 with the ATI x700 and im having issue's with it shutting down during game play. I have it on a desk with the 12 Cell battery so its sitting up about an inch inch n a half from the desk, so its getting proper vetallation.
I know there compact and they heat up faster, but anyone else having this issue?

For example when i play Need For Speed Most Wanted, F.E.AR. Well i think its a heat issue becuase it only happens when im playing games and the keyboard gets really hot.

Mine stays pretty cool even during long game sessions. I don't have the settings maxed out, though.

I don't have overheating problems unless I'm using the machie on my lap and it's not getting proper venting. I play Doom3, Unreal II and Need for Speed with no problems (granted, I'm using a 6 cell)... perhaps you should get this on the record with HP support.

play medal of honor and halo at max settings and no heat issues, left palm rest gets a little warm. try taking the battery out and run just on ac to see what happens.

This is the first time I have heard of this issue. I would definitely contact HP support, maybe you got a lemon.

Do you know if the fan is functioning properly?

I have the dv4000 with x700, but I do not have overheat problem. I guess that only happens when playing processing intensive games. My suggestion is to get a laptop cooler. I have the 12-cell battery. If I put the laptop on a desk, the CPU temperature is usually below 50C. If I put it on my lap, the temperature goes up since the ventilation is blocked. By the way, I am undervolting it to reduce heat.

Have you cleaned the fans? Maybe they'll accumulated a lot of dust.
