Any other v6030US owners out there?

I bought a Compaq v6030US from CircuitCity last month for $699. I've never been a big fan of CircuitCity, but I had found the model on the HP website and it seemed to be just what I needed. CC was the only one around that carried it, and once I saw the price CC wanted for it, it seemed an awfully good deal. I had to drive halfway across the state to get it (of course, here in Connecticut, that's no big deal), they had 2 in stock, and I got one. Now, CC doesn't appear to be selling them any longer. And the few I've found elsewhere are priced at over $1,000. I had to replace another laptop, and being unable to find a 6030 at the same price I paid, ordered a v3000z direct from HP, which actually cost me just about the same.

Now, I figure I either got a great deal on the 6030, or the 6030 is a dog and CC was trying to dump them. My understanding is that this is a pre-built 'retail' model, which I guess means HP makes a bunch and sends them to certain retail outlets. Perhaps CC just wanted to make room for the latest HP offerings, or this model wasn't selling fast enough at > $1,000, so they dropped the price.

So far, I'm happy with it. It does seem to run a little warm, which from what I read here, isn't really unusual. It seems to only warm up on the left hand rest, which I think is where the HD sits, so that makes some sense. I'm putting a 12 cell battery on it, which should lift it up a bit and improve the ventilation a little. After a couple of weeks, that's the only thing that I've noticed which might be a concern. Other than HP's apparent blue-light fetish. It's not as bad on the v3000z, but all those electric-blue lights do get a bit annoying. But I suspect some people think they're just great. If it turns out that these are my only issues with the machine down the road, I'm going to be a happy camper.

Anyway, I was wondering if any other memebers here had a v6030US and what your thoughts were about it. Any quirks or hardware issues that you experienced?

To expand your search keep in mind the dv6xxx line is divided into the (t) series machines (dv6000t) having an Intel CPU, and the (z) series (dv6000z) having the AMD cpu.... so any info be it a v6030US or dv6xxx will apply as long as the cpu is correct, and the same gpu is used.

Like you said these are pre-builts... and CC, BestBuy, Office Depot, OfficeMax, etc while having basiclly the same unit (t or z) will assign differant model numbers

(Keeps people from doing price matches.... Oh, that's not the model "we" carry... can't do a price match says the rep..)

There's some info in this thread that might prove helpful:
