Hi, my first post on the HP/compaq sub-forum.
I have an ancient Compaq Concerto laptop (one of the first laptops with a touchscreen).
The battery is long dead. The diskdrive also doesnt work anymore.
I have the repair manual, and i opened this nice old laptop to see what i can fix.
It seems that the diskdrive is a smaller/shorter type as the standard laptop diskdrives.
I repair laptops for a hobby, and i have several systems, diskdrives, etc.etc. Being a bit afraight to destroy this nice laptop, i post this question here:
Does anybody know, what diskdrive might be compatible, so that i can replace the broken diskdrive with a good one.
I have compaq Contura 420 and 430c as spair, and many compaq laptops. so maybe the drive of the contura might fit in it, as they seem, to be from the same era as the Concerto line. But i am not sure.
Oh, and the Compaq Concerto is a very nice laptop. The touchpen looks like a real pen (real nice retro-look oldfashioned). It does boot to Windows 3.0 for pencomputing or something like it. It still works, including the touchscreen, but yeah, back up battery is dead, and the drive.
Thanks in advance for any tips that people might know.

Thanks for your reply. And also sorry for my late reply....
I looked at that website, but they dont have a spare-part diskdrive. They do have an external battery. But i prefer the original internal accu/battery.
Anyhow, thanks for the link. -

Oh, and does anybody know what a Compaq Concerto, in working condition (except battery) is worth ?
I really have no idea, but i have a collection of 150 laptops (from 80s to 2004), but i think that it is one of the first touch-screen laptops...
Could it be worth something like 300$ or so ?
I also have the original power adapter, and the original books, folders, etc that came with the laptop when the former owner bought it ... ages ago... -
I highly doubt you'd find anyone to pay $300.00 for that anicent pile of hardware and personally If you had to spend more than $20 to fix it I wouldnt bother. Realistically, why would anyone purchase that for $300 when they could get an iPad 1 for about $350
