Is it even worth buying? I notice HP offers their own extended warranty.

You need to read the fine print on both warranties, as they probably cover different things. I don't know about the OD warranty, but the HP one will cover the major parts, but only so many times for each one (you can't get the screen replaced 5 times in a year, for example). I bought mine from Ecost and they offered an extended warranty through a third party, but it cost more, plus I didn't want to add another group to any kind of service I might need. I plan to buy the HP warranty soon, though you can buy it from Techexcess.net for a little less than what you pay directly from HP (and it's the HP warranty, not a 3rd party warranty).

Also, you can get accidental damage warranties, but I read here (I think) that you can actually get insurance through your homeowner's policy that is cheaper than this type of warranty, and it pays in cash instead of just fixing it. This would be nice if your laptop is damaged after a few years. You can use the cash from the policy to buy a new model instead of having your old model fixed to it's old specs.
