Hi guys I just got a dv9000z a few days ago. It's got a tl52, 1gb ram, and everything else basic. I think it's nice. My only complaint is that the white on the screen looks a little blue, maybe a sparkle effect. Anyone else notice this? This is a brightview, not the ultrabright. Due to this little annoyance I wonder if I should have gotten the latter.

Anyways, I was under the impression that this laptop would allow for plug and play 2nd HD. Boy was I wrong when I opened up the bottom. No enclosure included to hold the HD.

I've been searching all over the internet for a bracket for this thing and no luck. Anybody get one somehow? Any advice would be very appreciated. Thanks.

HP offers them, as far as I know.

See if you can find the part number on the main hard drive's bracket, then run the part number through here:

    http://partsurfer.hp.com/

    Hope this helps.

    :)

WOW !!!, you dv9xxxx guys are a LUCKY bunch!!!!

The dv8000t came out in Jan-2006+/-?, I bought one in April -2006 , and it wasn't until 8-2006 that this source was found for the bracket for that machine.

For many months no-one knew what part number it was.

Just for reference here's the hard drive bracket for the dv8xxxt series (dv8000t), and a source that sells just the bracket itself (you dv9000 guys may want to read thru the thread as it's not very long as it has a link to a company selling "just the hd bracket, Might want to bookmark it if HP says they can't get it, it's backordered, blah, blah blah.

NOTE: THIS IS FOR A DV8000T..., dv9000 is going to be differant!!!!.

403816-001 is indeed a Part Number for

    "Hard Drive Bracket"

also which comes with the package another 4 more component
    - Display Hinge Support Bracket
    - Optical Drive Bracket

I recently purchased the HDD caddy from HP Part Store, it was $39 plus tax and shipping.
    They are currently in stock.

    Part number 434106-001

    HP Parts Store - http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/default.asp

Just to let you know the bracket does come with the HD screws and the SATA interface adapter. I got mine through Fed-Ex today.

It's good to hear, but where to take the SATA connector separate?

How is that possible? Does the caddy just hold the drive in place or is it used to connect the electrical connections as well? The part number is 434106-001 on the HP Parts Store page.

ok, sorry. I didnt know your model was SATA. I have dv8130 it has ide drives. I dont know how it would work with sata's. all the caddy is doing on the ide drives is holding them in, mine has not came loose yet. I am using the 2nd drive as my vista drive and it has been working fine.

The SATA version has an additional adapter that converts the standard SATA connector to an HP proprietary one. A regular IDE connector is pretty beefy, but I don't think I would trust a SATA connector without the caddy to hold it in place.

The amount HP charges for this amounts to highway robbery. I'm sure they only do it to prevent people from getting cheaper drives elsewhere. The $40 premium for the caddy removes and cost advantage.

This part# (434106-001) from HP now costs $145, which is out right robbery!

If you want the tray with a 160g drive in it, it will cost you $625 !

I still have a few days to return the whole notebook, and I may do that. I can imagine down the road if I need a part, what it will cost.

Dell drive trays cost $10. Go figure!

eBay is the way to go for these. They still wind up costing like $40 though.

Yep. I just got mine for $27 US plus $4 shipping to Canada. No customs fees/charges on arrival, so it was almost dollar-for-dollar.

I found out after more calls that the part # for the tx2000 is different. It is not even available yet.

I haven't logged in for quite a while so I haven't been following what has been said in this thread but I would like to offer some info:

Whenever a mfg comes out with a new model (I'm assuming the tx2000 is new?) it takes quite a while for parts to show on hp partsurfer.... and some parts never appear to the end-user.... those parts being ear-marked as only available to service centers..

Heck I bought a HP nx6125 a 1 year 1/2 ago I think no parts are showing for it still using the product code.... Using a similar product code within the same family last time I checked did show parts....

E-mailed, PM'd HP several times .... never did any good..

About 18 months ago I bought this wonderful laptop Dv9313ea. :)
    Not a cheap one it cost € 1190.00. ($ 1536.00)
It has a space to add an extra hard disc. Which I wanted, as I did not want to carry around an extra external hard disc. :D
So yesterday I went to my local store (MyCom) and bought a 320 GB disc. When I opened my PC I discovered that it does not fit so I went back to the store with my laptop.
It was then that they informed me I had to buy a bracket, which they did not sell
So I went home and phoned HP in Holland. No they didn’t sell this part but they gave me the number of a firm that would be selling it.
When I phoned them I got the shock of my life. This little bracket would cost me € 77.50 (+ 19% tax) which is well over $ 120.00.

The disc cost me € 72,95 already so the total sum would be something like $ 220.00.
So I guess I'll have to settle for an external hard drive after all. :mad2:
Shame on HP to treat (or should I say cheat) their costumers this way!
Does anyone know if there is a cheaper solution for someone in Holland?

Oh by the way, I mailed newmodeUs at the email address they give on their website, but the mail came back. ([email protected])

I wound up getting one on ebay for I think $20, which is still expensive for a piece of plastic. You might be able to find someone on there willing to ship to Holland.
