Ok I just got my new HDX16 and for the first couple of minutes the backspace, enter, and number lock keys didn't work. But after a couple of minutes they work. They have been working since. I have shutdown and rebooted a couple of times and they are still working. I am wondering if I need to send this back or was it just some kind of fluke?

I just truned mine on for the first time also, which means I'll be looking for "flukes" as well. I hope things work out though, so good luck with your new machine!

It'll break again. Most likely the keyboard cable has been twisted to hell at the factory, and due to the heat generated inside the notebook it'll switch from working to broken whenever it feels like.

I've had the same issue with my DV5's touchpad, and ended up taking the thing apart and replacing the cable myself. No issues since. Unfortunately the keyboard cable is hardwired into the keyboard, so you'll need a new set of keys. I'd say wait for it to die again then send it back. It'll take a few days at most. :p

I don't have this issue. I suspect the wires connecting to the keyboard are clamped against something inside, when they built the laptop. I suggest you wait like a week and see, and if you still have the issue, send it back within 21 days cuz then they will do a refund, which may be better since you skip the chance of they never fixing it right. Then you just back it again.

Anybody else have any more info on this. It has started acting up again this weekend. I really don't want to have to send this thing back. I have already put windows 7 on it, repartitioned my harddrive and everything. What is kinda puzzling is that only certain keys are acting up.

Of course only certain keys act up, since there's most likely only one wire that gets interrupted.
