    I cancelled mine today.
I cancelled my zv6000 order from costco.
Replaced it with the Inspiron 9300. Included:
    Pentium M 740 (1.73ghz) It's faster than a 3000+ but slower than a 3200+ A64...
    Geforce go 6800 256MB
    512MB RAM DDR2 533mhz
    DVD double layer burner
    60GB HD 7200RPM (the 80gb 5400RPM was cheaper)
    17" screen
    Laptop weighs slightly less

Final price, after shipping and taxes: $1366.00 (no mail in rebates)
My COSTCO order was 1140.54. A price difference of a bit over $200.

In all aspects, the laptop's better than the zv6000. Exception: 64bit support. With long horn released in also a 32bit flavor (and still over a year away) i'm sure i'll get a lot of life from this laptop.

Grrrrreaaattt!...[ :p]I think I'm gonna stick with looking @ Mobile processors now. Maybe the 2800+ XP-M in r3000/zv5000, that'll be quiet, right? (I hope) But, then I'm concerned with performance, since my current xp-m 2800+ is 2.1GHz, yet many others say 1.6GHz but still 2800+...Very confused [V]

But I wouldn't say the zv6000 fans are extremely noisy. Just noisier than other laptops with true mobile setups which I would call silent. Even some mobile chips will be loud if they were designed with cheap fans. It's all subjective to what would bother you. Personally, I hardly notice the zv fan noise over whatever background noise I have. Unfortunately though, even if you went to a store to test them, you probably couldn't get a good feel for it.

    Welcome to the Dark Side...

My impression after extensive usage of the I9300:
    http://www.notebookreview.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16222

I bought mine about a week after it came out, I was about to cash in on the elusive 35% off coupon.

    My specs:

    PM 2.0ghz, 1GB ram, 100GB HD, Go6800, Intel a/b/g, bluetooth, dual-layer DVDRW, 17" WUXGA. 3yrs on-site serv. blah blah blah

U are gonna hear the fan when you are playing games, there's no way around it -- the Go6800 is simply amazing -- it has a LOT of headroom for O/Cing, I've re-aligned the cooling unit with arctic silver, and oced it moderately. Still cool-running, except now I get a tad over 4000 on 3DMark05. [ :D] Plays WoW at 1920x1200 with max detail.

    Powerful, yes.

    Enjoy your purchase,

    yass

well to my knowledge laptops are still quieter then the standard computer and now that they are coming with better cpu's then regular computers.i do not mind the extra noise.I have a 2.4P4 in my desktop and i use that for downloading all the time now that i havemy compaq with the 4000+ AMD Athlon 64.

One thing about the dell 9300 fan was that after it ramps up high, it stays on a higher than base level, and doesn't ramp back down completely until you reboot. At least mine did. But maybe they fixed that by now. Otherwise the fan is very quiet even while it was on. Going from a 9300 to a zv6000, there is definitely more fan noise.

There is a program made for Dells called FanGUI It allows you to change every preferance of how he fans work. What temp they turn on and off at, and if they come on low or high. I never hear my fans on my 9300 unless I am gaming.
