I swear I am not trying to start a flame war but I was wondering how many of you were thinking of "trading in" your HPs for the new Dell laptops....I, myself, have a m1330 on order (@great price) as there are times I wish for a smaller laptop and the whining, now constant fan noise on my compaq v6000 irks me....it will be interesting to see if Dell is able to take back some of the market share they lost to hp and Toshiba....

I was thinking to get, a new 1520 but there is no HDMI port on it, which I think is a very bad marketing decision by Dell, but on the other side there is a 8600GT option, which makes you wonder.

oh hell no! I still love hp laptops! Not so much the newer dv2000/6000/9000s though. They're too flashy for my taste, plus i hate the burning hot touchpads and annoyingly loud touch sensitive media controls. But I love my dv8000 and the smaller dv5000s and dv1000s. The new Inspirons are pretty sweet, though.

I'm a bit disappointed that HP is sticking with ATI for the 8510p, I'd be happier with a NVidia card for its better Linux support. Then it would be a slam dunk.

But as long as I can still use the same docking station and stand I'll probably stick with HP for the next go around -- unless the HD2600 really sucks.

I much prefer the design of my HP DV6000 over any Dell laptop, which is half the reason I bought this one. And it's also a sweet laptop, too. :p

I've been contemplating the same thing. The performance to value ratio looks damn near unbeatable. It doesn't have HDMI either, but for about 1600, well optioned, you get a 8600GT with 512MB of GDDR3, a WSXGA screen, and a 160gig Seagate 7200RPM drive, along with everything else you could possibly want.

I really like HP's business models, but the IFL90/np2090 really has me thinking.

    I dumped Dell, myself.

I have an Inspiron 5100 which overheats. The class-action lawsuits on the 5150 have already been settled and there are class-action lawsuits pending in both California and in Canada on the 5100, but no relief in sight for those of us with the 5100 yet.

    So I bought an HP.

I would stay with mine for another 2 years. It's been one year, and there were some problem, but not performance related.
I think Dell will push back the new line dvx500 of HP for now, with their sexy XPS M1330, but HP is a giant over Dell. Soon there will be something more attractive from HP.
There are some features on the M1330 that I want to trade my dv6000t, but on second thought, I won't rely on them much (HDMI, LED, SSD).
The last reason I stay with my dv6000t is because I feel guilty to betray my baby.

Every Dell I've ever used was crap, so I stopped using them, to put it bluntly. Those are just my personal experiences (and I'm sure many people here have had Dells that they love), but I'm an HP/Compaq guy. I've had two HPs now, and there are currently 4 Compaq desktops (and my brother's laptop), and all haven't failed me.

while Dell has nice new designs and good specs, VGA out on all Inspiron models is a HUGE let down in my list, but for anyone else it might be ok. The only notebook with HDMI out they have is XPS

My 2 month old HP TX1000 now sits in a dresser drawer, in favor of a Dell Latitude D630. Longtime HP fan/Dell hater here, but HP seems to be going for beauty over brawn now, and Dell is picking up the slack with some nice models.

i ordered the xps m1330 a week ago - calling in tuesday to send back my dv2500t, the 21 days ends thursday :)

love the hp, but got an excellent deal with dell for only $200 more.

reason for switching: smaller and better screen (led), slot loading drive, better hard drive, better warranty, better video card, more battery life.

the specs from the hp were:

    t7300
    100gb 7200rpm
    4gb ddr2 667mhz
    64mb 8400m gs
    14.1"
    AGN/Bluetooth wirless
    Fingerprint/Imprint/webcam
    2 year with accidental

the specs for the future m1330 is in the signature

kickace- your sig is what got me thinking about it !!! I think you might also like the "full keyboard" on the m1330....after using a 15.4", I couldn't use a cramped keyboard

Not me - I'm not dropping H-P - I just ordered a dv6000 ($831 shipped) w/ Nvidia 7400 this weekend. The jury is still out on the Dell 1520's plus I'm still seriously considering a Sager 2090...

I must admit, the new Dell Inspiron 1721 and 1521 notebooks are very interesting. They have the new AMD/ATI 1270 integrated GPU that's supposed to be very power efficient and hopefully they're using the new 65nm CPUs. That combination should close the battery life gap with Intel. The option to get Sprint EVDO Rev. A support integrated is very appealing too, or one of the other wireless carriers. If they offered a dedicated memory GPU option I'd be VERY tempted. I'm still very wary of Dell as a company though.
