Has anyone ever done this themselves? I'd like to fix it since I'm giving my ZV6000 to my sis soon. Just wanted to know the extent of the process or if I should have a professional do it.

I'm pretty decent mechanically but I don't want any surprises or any other possible broken parts if I attempt to replace the hinges myself.

Same here. My daughter dropped her computer apparently right on the hinges. She has been using the computer balancing the top. I'd also like to replace the hinges.

You could buy replacement hinges on eBay and swap them in. That's probably the easiest approach. They'll probably be used though.

Someone wrote up very nice instructions in this forum on how to repair broken hinges. I'll let you search for them.
