My V4000T is going to be here on Friday, but because of the heat issues l may be returning it. Has anyone ever returned a HP/Compaq notebook before for a refund? Do they take out any money for restocking fees and all that other good stuff?

l say this because besides the heating issue l saw a 5672WLMi for $1,200...

How do you know it's going to have overheating problems if you haven't even received it yet? Or is it coming back because you have previously sent it in because of this problem...?

Ah, well hopefully yours doesn't overheat. But to answer your question; no I have never returned with HP.com. It would suck to have to pay a re-stocking fee.

Returning should not be a problem. They don't change anything at all. I had returned in past and was done in less than minute. Received refund in 3 Days after FedEx Picked up package which was fastest I have seen. As for dell it takes 7 to 14 days!

Thats good to hear! And when you returned whatever it was, did you have it financed by hpshopping.com?

You may be able to just refuse the shipment, but i would check to be sure.

As far as returning is concerned. It is extremely easy. I did it twice in the period of two months without any questions asked.

Good! This Acer 5672 will come out to be $116 less then the V4000T cost me.

nope, didn't have it financed, but I don't think that should be matter since they have 21 Days Policy for Return without any Questions and they do handle it well.

Did you ever consider ordering from Costco? You can custom order HP/Compaq notebooks from them and I think it takes longer and costs more than HP direct but you have the benefit of a 6 month return policy. :D

    Unreal,
What games will you be playing on your laptop? If you were thinking BF2 this second choice probably won't cut it. I believe the x1400 is equivalent to the x300 or x600 (not sure but check out the video game thread for a good answer). I believe the x1600 is equal to the x700. If this is true which I highly believe it is your performance on this laptop wouldn't be very good. Just my thoughts on that laptop.

Also when you get your laptop you have 15 days to return it even if it is opened and you decided you just didn't want it. I strongly suggest you try it out yourself. Play BF2. I would suggest that you get a laptop cooler for when you play games. I don't take mine around everywhere but I leave the cooler at home and have not had any troubles with over heating. Oh and DO NOT play games on battery. Unless you want slow frame rates. Remember the laptop is trying to conserve battery when you are not plugged into a AC source.

Finally, this issue has just started to surface. I believe it is more of a panic than anything. I have had my laptop for three months now with no problems. Try it and see what you think.

This quote came from the game section.

So if you want to do heavy gaming on your laptop it doesn't seem like that card will cut it.

I think trying it out first is a good idea as timu said, because the x700 is a great gpu. However, it is likely that you will quickly learn that anything other than extremely light gaming will require a laptop cooler. I was severely dissapointed that I couldn't get an hour of WoW or BF2 in without dealing with overheating issues on BOTH laptops that I went through, while my friend with the same GPU in his acer could go on for hours without one. I wanted a portable gaming machine, and hauling around a laptop cooler wasn't practicle or very "cool" if you know what i mean. In the end I was wondering why I paid extra for a feature that was more frustrating than useful or fun to me, and I am happy that I returned it.

l understand but it's not like this will be my primary gaming computer or anything, l would rather play them on my desktop w/a 6600GT. lf l can play BF2 and CS:S on medium settings at best without many hickups then l will be happy. Not to mention the 5672 has the following over my V4000T:

    Integrated 1.3mp camera
    100gb 5.4k rpm vs my 80gb
    1GB DDR2 533 vs 512
    slot loading dvd burner
    Core Duo 1.66Ghz

Just wait till you receive your laptop and install games you want to play on it and see they work out for you. If you don't like it you can return in anyway with in 21 Days, so best will be to check it yourself. I saw one of you ordered day before yesterday and it looked very good too me, nice design and screen, picked up wireless fine to.
