If you have the DV3Z, could you please post some temps? I really like it but AMD has burned me before and I am really scared about the temps... if you could post a HWmonitor screenie or something that would be great...thanks!!!!

I tried a DV3 a while back and I'm not going to lie, it was running quite hot with the Turion. Uncomfortable on the lap I found. Since I returned the machine, I cannot post and actual temps.

I don't currently have my DV3z on hand, but I will try to remember and post some numbers if I can. From what I remember, it ran fairly hot and I was a bit reluctant to use it on the bed without a hard flat surface underneath it. Fan can spin up and be a bit loud as well.

Unfortunately, I had to send it back for repair since the 9-cell battery was too loose; enough for me to lose connection. (Anyone else have a similar issue?)

I was thinking about buying this machine and haven't found much on these forums. It seems to be getting fairly positive reviews around the web.

I think I read somewhere that it was running around 45ish Celsius on light load...

Not exactly a cool running machine (my X200, in comparison, is around 29-30 C).

Got the dv3z back, they replaced the bottom of the body so it seems my issue with a loose battery has been resolved. Wish they didn't just peel the serial # and HP sticker off and stick it back on. Kind of frayed at the edges, anyways.

Using CPUID Hardware Monitor, processors seem to idle around 41-42 C.
Running Prime95 x64 for a couple minutesbrings that up to around 78-80 C.
Hope that helps answer your question.

i'll bump it as there's not much responses to that model.

I hit bestbuy today and checked out dv3 with 2.1ghz amd cpu and I donwloaded hwmonitor there through their wireless :) it was idling at 60c, quite a lot, then I went online and run youtube video on fullscreen for like 2min and it hit 75c, had to leave so dunno if it would raise higher.
Wonder how bad the temps are gaming and watching dvd on that thing.

    Thanks for the replies guys!

The AMD chip is throwing me off man... I've been burned twice by heat issues, once with an AMD based system and now with my bloody Nvidia GPU, so you could say I am overly cautious at this point.... I think I am going to stick with an Intel CPU and Intel graphics in the DV4.

I love the size and the options of the DV3z, especially the backlit keyboard and the SSD..... but I can't get myself to get a laptop with an AMD chip..... oh well.
