    Anyone have the HP X360-13z?

I cannot find any posts about the AMD Beema A8-6410 based X360-13z.

I am interested in this and was wondering if anyone had good or bad experiences with it yet?

I was also thinking of trying some 1866 RAM in it, since the A8-6310 had an 1866 controller, but HP puts 1600 RAM in everything, even with APUs that could use 2133.

So if anyone had one, a picture of where the RAM goes or how to access it would be great.

Anyone think there is any reason to use 2x4GB modules, rather than just a single 8GB DIMM? Its a single channel memory controller, and I won't ever add any more RAM.

Is there any reason to spread the heat across two DIMMs, or is there power savings using one larger DIMM?

    Thanks for any replies.

A guy at semiaccurate bought one of these and he reports back a good experience. The build quality is solid and performance is great.

I would definitely use 1866 RAM as it is max supported. HP probably has a stock of 1600 RAM they use for production. Probably saves them some money too.

From what I remember it has two sodimm slots. The IMC supports single channel memory only so it really doesn't make a difference as to how you break it down. It really depends on whether you're going to use 4, 8, 16 GB RAM. However, electrically I want to venture out and say one sodimm would likely consume less energy and generate less heat then two sodimms. My guess, I could be wrong and I have no way to prove it.

It would've been really cool if HP used an IPS display and a backlit KB. I can not for give them for this.

An IPS 1600 x 900 display would have been great, I don't think that a lack of keyboard backlighting is a deal breaker though, that 360 degree hinge more than makes up for it.

    Thanks for the reply.

I agree that 1600x900 would have been really nice. I wonder how it will work with a stylus, if handwriting will be very good.

I ordered it, so I will soon find out, takes about a week to ship from HP though.

Well heres the thing. Prior to releasing the Beema 13.3" x360-13z, HP was selling a Temash A6-1450 13.3" IPS touch tablet detachable. Why couldn't HP have use that same IPS display? I'm just saying.

Congrats on ordering it. Its a really cool design and that A8-6410 is quite a chip! Staples and office max also carry this model if you wanted to see it in person.

AMD-based systems always suffer from some nonsense. The Temash probably didn't sell well and HP needed to make something cheaper. Maybe Lenovo sold a lot of low res Yoga models that made the case that it was the best for sales. Or simply the 13z is replacing the 1z or whatever which also had low res laptop. There may be a new Mullins based detachable yet to come out.

Wow, so I went and got the service manual to see the steps for replacing the RAM. And here it is

Before removing the memory module, follow these steps:
    1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the
computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
    2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
    3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet
and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
    4. Remove the keyboard/top cover (see Keyboard/top cover on page 34), and then remove the
    following components:
    a. Battery (see Battery on page 38)
    b. WLAN module (see WLAN module on page 41)
    c. Fan (see Fan on page 44)
    d. Audio/USB board (see Audio/USB board on page 43)
    e. Speakers (see Speakers on page 45)
    f. Display assembly (see Display assembly on page 47)
    g. System board (see System board on page 56)

    Remove the memory module:
    1. Turn the system board upside down with the front toward you.
    2. Spread the retaining tabs (1)on each side of the memory module slot to release the memory
module. (The memory module tilts up.)

SO....basically take the whole thing apart. Amazing.

The hard drive isn't so bad, just lift off the keyboard. I guess I will attempt them both this weekend and see if the A8-6410 will run 1866 RAM for better IGP performance.

I thought I was going to get this done tonight, but then the Bears actually showed up for Sunday night football and I was otherwise busy celebrating :)
