Just ran HP Update and I got this. Has anyone installed this?
-
Lol. No one likes BIOS updates? ;p
-
I use this to update bios /drivers, it's easy I've done it a few times no problems, just do an autodetect and follow the prompts to get what you need. You got to use IE for autodetect.
http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=support&jumpid=in_R329_prodexp%2Fhhoslp%2Fsplit%2Fsupport -
All you need to do is type in your model...why do you need the auto-detect. Plus that's not my question. HP Update uses that list anyways...my question was asking whether or not anyone has tried updating their BIOS. I'm reluctant to update due to the fact that everything seems stable.
-
Boring........
-
No chance of a typo for one with auto-detect and if you don't trust HP updater use this or maybe don't!
P.S. Let me take that further, if you enter a wrong key while typing your product/model # or maybe you believe you have one model when you have another (some people will sell you a computer based on what they believe it is not necessary on what it is) then end up with the wrong bios and experience a black/blue screen or worse, that would be your fault, but if you use A/D and that happens well you might be able to get help with that. -
Lol...after you type your model number or product number, there is a picture of the laptop and it displays your model. If you still mess up and continue downloading wrong drivers, then you are just stupid.
-
I know of a person who bought a laptop off ebay and the seller stated it as a dv9725xt or something like that and when he run a autodetect it was a different model. In my opinion it would have been stupid not to do a autodetect when he was looking for updates that day!
I don't really care if you think autodetect is useful or not, all I know I've updated bios on 2 different laptops 4 times using it without asking for help, who should be feeling stupid? -
Who's asking for help? I was just wondering who updated their BIOS. Learn how to read.
-
No Bios update for me. However I did get the tools update, and suddenly now my battery check software and my HP sys info software are all functioning. Glad they finally got around to fixing it.
-
OK, without wondering about anything, because I know nowadays updating bios is no harder than downloading a game or a paint program from vendors like HP and the bios load themselves in much the same way as a game or other everyday program.
I've asked for help here before more than once and been given worse advice than I've given you and haven't went on about it.
I figure you'd have something to go on about if my suggestion was wrong, but it's not, I've used it 4 times without a problem.
Good luck with your wondering because I getting the impression you need more than just help with your bios. -
personally i wouldnt update unless i have a problem, or if the update adds new features that are beneficial
-
I'd like to jump onboard and ask if anyone has updated their BIOS for the DV9000 series to the version that continuously runs the fan and what they think about it.
-
Its supposed to reduce your gpu/cpu from fluctuating temps, which in turn reduces the chances of a failed defective Nvidia GPU..
-
so THATS why my GPU failed
-
A lot of people are of your beliefs with good enough reason I might add, but I think different for a few reasons,
1)Many of the software developers are under pressure to develop to have a product to take to market which means more revenue and will just keep updating their clients until they feel they've got all the bugs out of it or the product is of a less commercial interest. (Much like Vista)
2)You never know what benefits will arise from an update so I give it a go, I know I updated drivers for a Realtek Audio on a Asus mobo once and it knock out the front panel audio jacks, I was going to roll back but I just end up getting USB headset.
3)Plus HP says it's important to do so to optimizes performance.
I have the same bios F.58 A and I had a T7500 and upgraded to the T9300, the annoying fan is so much less active now. I'd recommend going from the 65nanometer architecture to the 45nanometer, my laptop runs much cooler and quieter plus my 3DMark score went up just over 600!
-
I have Bios F.57 on my 9700t. I don't see a reason to update. my temps don't fluctuate that much and it already runs very cool compared to most people's notebooks around here.
I would update the bios if it gave me the ability to go with up to 8 gigs of ram instead of 4 of course.
-
i got my mobo replaced and i assume it alread has the newest BIOS... my fan is on ALL the time lol. its on at lower speeds and gets faster as my laptop heats up
-
I'd try them if I were you, because you can always roll them back if you're not happy. On that HP link I posted , there's at least 3 version of the BIOS from newest going backwards.
You can check in system information in the help and support software what version of BIOS you have, don't assume you have the latest version like I did.
I took a computer for service once and the technician reinstalled the bios off my CD I got with the computer for the mobo and I was there and noticed they were a newer version than what was on the computer when I got it, I asked the technician how can this be and he told me offen when computer are built back at the factory the guy's installing the software do so off a installation disc which may have older bios/drivers than what's out at the moment. -
Hp Update doesn't say there is a bios update for my notebook. I run it regularly. I ran it most recently to see if the new synaptic drivers were available. Which they aren't.
-
I don't use HP updater, I use support page to check for drivers/bios, I don't like that updater, it automatically looks for update, more than once after a auto check I went looking and updates where to be found, be it for hard or software.
You say the version you have now is F57 but if you use this page you'll find F 58A, because that's what I have and I know a person who has a DV9700 64bit and he has F 58A.

I went ahead and updated the bios even though I dont like doing that unless there is a fix I need. I don't see any noticeable difference though. Maybe I'll get lucky and find out I can use 8 gigs of ram now instead of 4. hehe.

just to provide a little insight on those points u made yesterday, updates might do more harm then good, especially if the description of what is updated is vague, about a month ago, hp released a bios update for my desktop, and stated something memory speed 'enhancement', well it was the complete opposite, it actually made the computer slower, and i didnt remember to save a copy of the other bios version that i had prior to update, so i was stuck with this new 'slower' bios, so updating wont necessarily bring benefits.
ps. there is no need to attempt to help me 'fix' the problem, as i know exactly why it slowed down. this is just to provide 'my 2 cents' -
This page has a Previous version of your bios, good thing about HP they usually have more than one version of any models bios so you can roll them back.

I think he did say this, which would indicate he believes updating is risky. -
really nice of you to help, BUT, i did say desktop, not laptop....
-
MY bad, I through the bios was for your HP nc8430 [RB554UT] w. 160gb HD, 2GB RAM - undervolted to 0.9625v@12x - GPU MAX @ 480MHz/465MHz
-
I have a dv9225 & the update page show 2 different BIOS updates for my AMD CPU, F.3D & F.40.
So which one would be correct?
I just checked & the BIOS in my PC is F.3E, which is what HP installed way back when, when I sent it in for the random shutdown issues they have on their website. -
The BIOS for DV5T seem to have disappeared off the DV5 support page...
-
Just check which one are the latest = 08-2008 F.40.
There has been plenty of talk about the over heating issue, maybe they've pulled them off the shelf until they sort it out, but yes does seem strange. -
I thought that but I also thought it odd that one was ending with a number & one was a letter.
-
You also never know what problems could arise. Unless the update specifies a problem you have, don't get it. Sometimes developers put out patches that only have to do with a smaller number of machines and end up screwing up everyone else's machine.
-
>>I know I updated drivers for a Realtek Audio on a Asus mobo once and it knock out the front panel audio jacks, I was going to roll back but I just end up getting USB headset<<
You can see I know it's not all beer and skittles when it comes to updating, but it's easy enough to roll back or do a restore nowadays to warrant trying the update. -
You're my hero
-
i did the update everything is fine here .. what would make u think they would release a buggy bios .. they must have made it for some reason (regardless how evil or underhanded it is) just update it or don't
pffffffffffffffff
Anyone install the new HP bios from HP Update?
