Basically I'm just wondering when the 8510p is coming out.
-
there was an article about hp and their launching of notebooks a week or two back about this. If i'm not mistaken, the 8510p and w versions will be launch sometime in july.
-
I am SOOO waiting for this thing to become available! I just hope they offer the 120GB version of the 7200RPM drive instead of the 100GB; the price difference between the two sizes is minuscule.
I am curious how the X2600 graphics stack-up... -
I heard end of July start of August -
When is it coming out?
Not soon enough.
According to the US datasheet, the largest 7200 drive is 100GB...shame.

I haven't been too impressed with ATI's DX10 lineup, but I think the 2600 is probably the only hope they really have for notebooks right now. A lot of DX10 notebooks went with nVidia for the first round...
Watch, the 2600 won't be as powerful as the X1600.
-
I'm thinking the 2600 will hold it's own, but not be able to touch an 8600GT. Only time will tell though, I'll be looking into an 8510 as soon as they're available. -

It looks like the only windows options that will be available are going to be XP Pro and Vista Business (32 or 64 bit).
I'm still on the fence on whether I want to make the jump to Vista, especially now that I notice that a lot of the media-related programs of Home Premium do not come with Vista Business. Is there a way to add these on through microsoft?
I suppose there is plenty of software that can replace Premiums extra media junk.
Ugh, I kind of wish I liked the dv6500t... -
Doesn't the 8510 range now includes NVidia graphics for the first time? This is awesome news because they will then function better under Linux.
Those with an 8420/8430 now will be a little disappointed (inc. me) as our notebooks will be too new to be replaced. -
That is of course, on the 8510w(workstation) model...which will probably end up costing big bucks. -
-
Only question left is:
Vista or XP?
agh...I don't like the thought of Vista sapping the performance out of the few games I do play, but at the same time, I don't want to be caught needing Vista anytime soon. -
-
HP customer services reports that the 8510p will be IN STOCK and available for shipment July 2nd. It can come in either an ensemble or custom package.
-
Also, does anyone know if the the bay for the optical drive is Multibay I or II? It isn't real clear whether or not you can add a second HDD here or not. -
As for the OS question...
Get XP.
Vista is buggy right now, and has more issues than I care to talk about right now. XP is a good and mature OS right now, so pick up that copy while you still can. Vista will be around later if you want it, but XP won't.
I'm debating whether to get Vista after a SP or two, or just forget it altogether and wait for the next OS. But I'm not going back to Vista any time soon that is for sure. -
As far as I know 8510p WON'T support any Multibay version; only via an external box. -
- IE6 Application Compatibility XP VPC - Microsoft has provided a free VPC image with a pre-activated copy of XP SP2 with IE6 loaded (currently set to expire 08/17/2007)
- Vista Business/Ultimate Licenses Entitle you to XP - by owning a copy of Vista Business or Ultimate editions you are legally able to load XP until you're ready to run Vista
-
Actually, there is only ATi 2600 available for 8510p. Only workstation 8510w will have ATI/nVidia option.
-
I am using Vista for ages now on all of my computers...Used Vista on my HP nc8430 since January...No problems at all. And I am playing the latest and the greates games on it too. I guess 2GB of RAM does the trick. Using Vista Business - way better than Vista Home...
Not sure why anyone would go back to XP from Vista - does that suppose to be a joke or what. Unless you have some real Sh*1 hardware and do not have any drivers.
I did not have only 1 driver - that is for Logitech Notebook Pro webcam (1st version). But I managed to rebuild Logitech webcam drivers to support my camera on Vista (which is not supported according to Logitech). So here you go. Vista has no troubles at all if you know how to use the OS...
Anyone know the ETA for HP 8510p?
