As most of you know file copy between networked computers in Vista is extremely slow or even locks up the copy process. this is a known issue. there is a hotfix out there for it but I tried loading it and it still is not close to par as far as performance goes. Is anyone else getting better results. Have you guys noticed your system stalling on copy of files from shared network folders? Perhaps even timeouts of coping of a bunch of files?

Copying over a network works fine for me, except for the slow speed. I usually max out at 2 MB/s or so, and I have a 108 Mbps router with a 54Mbps wireless card. Should be faster than that, I believe.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Care to share a link to this hotfix?

It's KB931770, but there seems to be a lot of confusion over what it fixes. The KB article here only mentions that the process may occaisonally hang... not that it's painfully slow, and sometimes fails.

I've installed the update, which you can get from The Hotfix Share (go to Download -> Language Neutral -> Vista), on all my systems, and it didn't appear to change the speed or likelihood of success of tranferring files across the network. That fix would likely be a much larger one, that effects more than just one file that "locked up" occaisonally.

I still have issues transferring large 1 GB+ files across the network from one wireless machine to another. It usually fails, despite both machines getting an excellent signal. Smaller files usually go through, but the transfer rate is painfully slow. It's usually faster to redownload a file on each machine rather than transfer across the net.

Totaly agree. Anything over 500mb is hit or miss on Vista. The hot fix did very little if any. I'm so close to going back to XP. Honestly I can't think of too many things that Vista brings to the table. All the hyped up things are just that. ready boost was a downer.

I copy files off my network all the time and the speed and performance is fine.

this worked for me, open an elevated command prompt, type:

netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

    or try

netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=restricted

    Some solutions for slow copy
