You can use RMclock/NHC to undervolt. The problem is that the intel CD and C2D chips are locked at .95 volt idle. This means that if you are on battery, there will be no heat/battery life savings if you enable max battery. I'm not sure about the AMD chips if you have a dv6000z.

Intel C D and C 2 D are locked in 1GHz/0.95V as minimum. You can't do much about the portable mode power consumption.
AMD Turion TL/MK and Sempron are all open to undervolt. However, the result may vary from chip to chip. Mine got 4x 800MHz in 0.8V. -
