I have done searches and so many seem to mention things they heard about DriveLock, but they are not actually using DriveLock.

I just want to know if I can set it up for when we fly somewhere and stay in a hotel, and then reset/disable DriveLock when we get home?

Also, is there a danger, once this is enabled, that something can happen so that the Hard Drive is no longer any good...even if you do remember the password?

TIA...just think this may be better than folder encryption.

DriveLock is not encryption. It enables the ATA security feature. You can set it up temporarily if you like.

I leave it on all the time in combination with full disk encryption. The system asks for my disk password any time the system is powered on from being completely off or hibernated, which is about once every month or so for me (because everything else is a suspend/resume or reboot).

Don't bother using the feature if you can't keep the password safely.

Thank you, I have no trouble keeping the password safe. I had heard that you do not need to encrypt folders or whole drives if the ATA is locked. I am not worried about the FBI, just that if someone takes the Laptop at a Motel, etc. they can't get to my passwords...like on this site.

I had planned on trying DriveLock and setting the Master and Drivelock PW's the same.
