One of the things I am looking for in a laptop is decent speakers. I know none have great sound quality, but its nice to be able to watch an online video without head phones. Anyway, the 2 little "vents" on the front of the hp dont look like they can produce the best sound to me. What do you guys think about that? I really dont want to spend 1200 bucks on this computer only to have sound that I can barely hear.

Envy laptop speakers have Beats technology which are supposed to give the best sound out of any current laptops..
-
Yes but according to who? I havent read reviews of the others envys yet. I am about to do that now. But do they have speaker vents that are as small?
-
What is this Beats Audio!?
-
Personally any laptop that doesn't have a built in sub sounds rather tinny, but I've been spoiled with what I have so I don't really count here :<
The most you can probably get from anything is somewhat decent midrange if the laptop doesn't have a low frequency speaker dedicated for it. -
Well im not really looking for great bass from a laptop. I would just like enough volume range to be able to hear the words in videos. Is that a realistic expectation from a 14"?
-
buy a stereo if you want hifi sound
i mean serious, what do you expect from a small device like a laptop -
Well if you read my post, I said I was not expecting hi-fi sound. And I also said what I expect from a laptop.

MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
we'll find out.
but I got a feeling it may be like my Asus G1...which well. I have hooked up to speakers 24/7 (that or headphones). Too soft. Too muffled. Was my only real complaint (and is what made me break out my old desktop speakers with the subwoofer who's power shorts out if you don't push it against the wall the right way and all) -
Well I don't expect it to be useful for gaming due to lack of lows, but I assume they won't be a total POS. Not after many of us shelled out $1000-1800 a piece. Time will tell *exactly* how loud they are.

From my experience with the Envy 15, which has only two small speaker vents on the left and right side of the laptop, they are indeed on the quiet side (about 60% of the volume level of my old HP dv6000) and they lack bass (a bit better than my old HP, but much weaker than laptops with built-in subs), but they are very clean-sounding with very distinct mids and highs. I'd imagine the E14 would have similar audio performance.

I'm wondering about sound quality also...or more specific...the volume. I don't expect hi fi but the dm3z I recently sold wasn't near as loud as my last 3 cell phone speakers. I do plan on a set of headphones. Anyone have suggestions for 100us dollars and less?

I'd recommend some of the midrange Sennheisers in the HD200 range. Depending on the kind of sound you'll be listening to, you'll want to look at different brands. The Grado MS1 is great for a front-row-seat-at-a-rock-concert sound. Some of the most well rounded I've listened to are Beyerdynamic and Denon headphones. If you're willing to spend a bit extra, the ah-d2000 are a great pair of cans.

All craps, probably the tiny speakers are made by Beats, they still use IDT
-
Speakers are the last thing I'd worry about.
-
This basically sums up what the speakers on the Envy 14 will be like.

Know this thread is four months old but I think one of my envy speakers has been blown or something. The right side speaker sounds horrible. Any thoughts on how I can fix this?
-
RMA it.
