Impressions, build, keyboard quality?

I bought one. It's okay. I like the screen size and brightness (It sucks outside, but what LCD doesn't?). The keyboard feels good and the trackpad is excellent (I was worried about the trackpad). The whole laptop feels a little plastic-y. I'm not sure about the long-term durability, but it made it to Afghanistan okay.
What, in particular, would you like to know? -
just wondering, HP is saying that they 'redesigned' the G62 keyboard and I was wondering about the feel. mushy keys, firm or flexible or ??
None of the retail shops around here have a G62 for me to pound on. -
The keyboard may not be the best out there but it certainly isn't bad. The keys have an unfamiliar size to me so fast typing may need some time getting used to them.
The case itself feels very sturdy and gives a nice, quality feel. It's no Mac book for sure but I've seen much worse cases. Mine is nicely built and definitely not flexy anwhere. The internals have a high quality also, Kingston RAM and a Hitachi 7200rpm drive aren't too shabby, especially not for this price.
What I liked most so far is for one the screen. It is very bright and shows a good contrast, the resolution could be a tad higher considering the size.
Noise-wise it isn't bad and stays absolutely silent for most of the time. The fan goes on now and then and can be clearly heard when it does. I hope they change this with a new firmware. -
I purchased one aswell about one month ago. This is the first laptop I've owned. I have no complaints. Keyboard took awhile to get used to due to the row of quick start keys on the left but once i got used to them the keyboard felt very nice. Not flimsy at all. Webcam is decent quality in good light and the whole general feel of the laptop feels like its well built. Very fast and and quality internal parts for the price. Not a gaming laptop obviously but for everything is definately fast.

I bought a G62 about 2 weeks ago. Great machine for the money. I paid $550 for mine (i3-330, 4gb RAM, 7200rpm 500gb hard drive). Keyboard feel is okay, but not great. Speakers are okay. Touchpad is average. Only thing I don't really care for is the fact that the connector for the power supply is not a right angle so it sticks out rather far. Feels quite snappy (I did reload mine with a fresh Win 7 x64).

This is my first laptop. So take my advice with a grain of salt. Having said that i agree with what Radical_53, jeronesi2k2002 and cjcerny have said about it. It's a great bargain for the hardware that it comes with. From what i have read its processor is superior to the core2duo line up up till 2.4 GHz. After that the c2d lineup wins over this core i3 processor. But again the core i3 wins because it has a lower power output and it comes with hyperthreading, none of the c2d line has it.
Then, the absence of the graphic card again makes for lesser power consumption and heat output. So if you're planning on running it for long periods of time then you do not have to worry about buying a notebook cooler, provided you're keeping it on a sturdy platform and not any sort of fabric.
Since i have large hands i need some time to get adjusted to the keyboard but overall its nice. I especially like the quick launch action keys on the left and then the pg up/pg down and del key on the right.
I dont have any issues with the brightness or the sound quality so far.
I like the the material they have used on the laptop. Its scratch and finger print proof.
And, it is definitely not built for any sort of gaming until and unless you have bought the one with the Ati card.
Have fun. Its a nice buy. -
I know this is an old topic but I thought I'd post here because I just bought this laptop and I wanted to warn some potential buyers of problems.
Regarding the keyboard, it's really different. There is almost no click, it feels worn-in already - squishy and soft. Personally I much prefer a little hardness and a proper click in the keys, but you might dig it.
Build quality is good, trackpad is good, and of course the specs are good for the price.
The screen, however, is pretty bad I would say. It is so reflective even with rather dim light, and the colours seem really washed out. I've tried every setting over the past few days and it is near impossible to get a decent black on the screen - just a very dark grey, and even then only at the expense of a lot of colour, contrast and definition. Although it's only one aspect of the laptop, it ruins the whole thing - watching movies, images, and even just word processing is affected.
My advice is to make sure you check out the screen before you buy, compare it with some others, because I think that's where they cut corners to get those good specs.
Anyonw bought a G62 yet?
