I've got Windows Vista and the six cell battery.

I get 2 hours, TOPS with dv2310us (amd turion x2, nvidia 6150) with Vista. Mind you, lowest brightness, wifi and bluetooth off, max battery settings.

    It's absolutely ridiculous.

With a macbook, the real world usage is 3 hours or more.

Is there something wrong with my laptop or would things get better moving to an intel chip?

I have had a Sony SZ last 2.5 if not 3 hours using it much less conservatively. Then again, it had XP.

I'd install XP if I could, but HP doesn't have any drivers for that and I'm having a hard time finding the required drivers that work.

My dv2125nr, I think used to get 2hr when I got it. for some reason a few month later I am getting less than 1.5, I don't use it in battery that much to be able to tell you exactly. I installed Vista recently and even though I have used a few times on battery, I have not time how long the battery its lasting.

With the stock 6 cell(43WHr) battery ~2hrs with Vista is what you should expect. With XP you should expect a slight increase in battery life. As for the drivers, there are drivers available for the dv2000z here. These should work on your systemas well snce it is part of the dv2000z series. Only issues I think if any would be with the audio and webcam drivers. Rest of the stuff shouldnt have any issues.

    Thanks :>
I thought that XP gave you an additional 30 min of battery life?

Do you use Aero? Have you tried disabling indexing (services -> right click 'Windows Search' -> Stop). That might stretch out the battery another 15mins or so.

Vista is a battery whore. :-(

But it's worth it for a great OS!

Depends on your usage. XP will definately be prolong the battery life. When my battery was new I used to average around 2:30min with low brightness and wifi on surfing the web. But a year later since Li-ion batteries degrade over time and use, I am averaging around 2:00hrs.

If you are looking for over 3hrs battery life then get the 12 cell battery. It might protrude out from underneath the notebook but I think it would be worthwhile given the extra battery life(anywhere from 4hr:30 to 5hr:30).
