    Hey Everybody!
I was thinking of buying an external USB Hard drive to put all of my Heavy data in it....
Then, one of my friends told me that he had two internal hard drives in his laptop! I was really surprised to know we could do that, he checked out my laptop and told me I didn't have any problems having a second hard drive, since i had the available ide slot under....

Now, since I know you guys are really good guys and freacking smart....
I wanted to know if its better to have a External second hard drive or internal, since i don't want my main hard drive to me filled of Heavy Zips/ Rar's /movies /music all the time.

Internals are going to be faster, but you never listed what computer you have.

Or just do both! Ha, I have two seagate 7200 120's, so ~240gb storage between the two drives, plus I use a 320gb external drive to store files and images of my Vista/XP partitions (via Acronis True Image). Most of the time I don't need to use the external drive but its nice to have the extra space which prevents clutter on my laptop internal drives. Also as already stated an external drive makes moving data from desktop systems to laptops a breeze. In the end it really depends on what you want to use your laptop for and how much you are willing to pay for the extra storage.

extra drive in laptop means heavier, less battery life, and another part in the laptop to create more heat. I vote for external. But if you need to carry all those data with you and want speed to go along with it, then internal is the way to go.

If you're going to get another hard drive for your laptop you'll need to most likely get a bracket for it. At least that's what I've heard. They're like $20-25 from HP. I have 2 hard drives and a 320GB external drive and have plenty of space for my media, rars, zips etc.

It all depends. If you want speed you should buy the internal HDD, if you want portability and the ease of transferring files between computers then I would say get a external. If you want a great external HDD, look at the Western Digital Passports, they power and connect to your computer via 1 USB cable and they go upto 320GB now. They are very small and great for portability. Below is a link to a 320GB external HDD:

Like I said though, if you want faster speeds accessing and writing data then I would put a HDD internal, but if you want portability and ease of transferring files between computers then go with the external.

    Wow!!!
Thanks a lot guys for taiking the time to reply to this thread!

I believe my choice has bean made; i'm gonna go with External because its basically stuff that I "might" use in the future, and since I don't want my laptop to be heavier and consume more battery... I really should stick with External.

Again people, Thanks a lot everybody for you time and effort!

External if its for backup. If your actually gonna use the files daily then internal would be more suitable.

Important files to externals in case the main HD goes kaput. I also tend to save to DVDs for very important files especially pictures and music files. Externals are affordable now. Besides you can take it with you and hook it up to any computer.
