So it seems like the update is official now. Graphics wise there is almost no improvement, and the same goes for RAM, hard drive, and display.
Are the new processors significantly faster? I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but I'm no expert.
Trackpad and battery life seem to be the only notable differences. Anyone know how significantly better these will be?
Currently I'm on a Macbook Pro and I'm curious if the Envy will come close with either trackpad or batter life. I want to get a PC laptop, and am hoping it's good, but I'm guessing the Macbook is still miles ahead in these categories.

New SB procs are 10-15% faster clock-for-clock than older processors.
The trackpad is surprisingly similar to the Macbook's right now, but the battery life is definitely lacking. -
When you say similar right now, do you mean the first gen or the updated Envy's? And are you referring to the sensitivitty/performance? -

Plus, the GPU is going to be about 15% faster.

Well, the 6630 has 80 more shaders and a new video decoding engine.
It gets about 200 more points in 3dmark '06, 6932 for the 6630 vs. 6724 on average for the 5650. -
On notebookcheck they have it benchmarked in games and while the 6630m is faster in some, it's also in others (Crysis, Bad Company 2). In the 3dmark 05/06 tests, it's almost the same (0% and 3% difference).

Compared to the old Envy 14, the updated Envy 14 has a better trackpad (not as good as a MBP), better graphics card (yes, but not by too much), better processor, HP CoolSense 2.0, USB 3.0, and no eSATA port.
If your MBP has an i5, I'd probably stick with that. If you have a Core 2 Duo, then the Envy 14 should make a decent upgrade. -

Are better trackpad and battery life the only benefits of the "updated" envy 14??
