I don't really remember if the fans were always this loud, or if it's just dust accumulating (which is odd because I recently cleaned it), but the whirl of the fans is very easily audible from 5-7 feet away, even when nothing drastically taxing is going on (bear in my I'm using the integrated graphics as well).
It's much different from other laptops where you can really only hear the fans when you get close to the keyboard.
Anyone else having a similar experience?

Is it like normal fan noise or does it sound noticeably different from before other than it is on?

What model/specs? It would be wise to find an owner's lounge and inquire there. -
mine with i7 2630
i can hardly hear anything when idle with integrated GPU. Sometime it spits out cool air as well)

i7-2630QM, 8 GB Ram, 1080p anti-glare, Radeon 6770 (though I mostly stick to integrated graphics when I'm not gaming)

Mine is unnoticeable until the temperature hit 70c+.

for me it depends, when using integrated graphics + power saver, the fan is VERY quiet (like if it was turned off)
When I have a couple of programs running as I am watching HD streams and have lots of tabs open on firefox, the fan remains quiet even when my laptop is laying on a pillow
But when using the 6770m + high performance or hp recommended, as soon as I watch HD streams or videos the fan isnt quiet anymore, its noticeable but not that loud, however when I play games the fan is really loud, as loud as a cooling pad, it doesnt bother me though since I use a headset while gaming -

its my first ever laptop
another stupid question, does coolsense actually do anything? i got the 2.0 version with only the on/off/auto settings, i dont have the performance/coolest/quietest setting in the support assistant -> coolsense menu/option - any experience with this? (should i get the 1.0 with the performance/quietest/coolest option or keep this?)
also, if i dont use coolsense, will the fan still kick on/off when needed? if so, what is the point of coolsense?
thanks a lot for the help -
I dont exactly know how coolsense 2.0 works but yes the fan will still kick on/off when needed, I believe turning it ON will make your laptop run much cooler.
I have 1.0 and I used to have mine set on coolest mode, it kept my gpu temperatures below 73C
but then I realized I got 25% more fps on starcraft 2 and skyrim (havent tried any other games) when running on "performance mode", so since then I have left it on performance mode and it actually doesnt get as hot as I thought it would get when gaming, I have heard having it on coolest mode disables turbo boost on the processor, and about quietest mode, well it makes your laptop REALLY quiet, but it runs hotter, I never use it since the laptop is already quiet. -
Alright, so I got my heatsink replaced by HP, the problem is that this has done little to lessen the noiise of the fans when the computer is doing simple tasks.
Now normally I wouldn't be worried and just assume the extra noise is the price to be paid for having more power, but it seems like others are not having a similar experience.
Any thoughts as to what could causing the extra or if it's just normal? -
It depends on the load actually, the fan is louder when I play Dota 2 than League of Legends. But I suggest you put it in intel when not gaming since the Radeon card is hot enough for the fun to whirrr at idle. But when i'm on intel card, there's no sound or very quiet sound from the fan even when I run flash apps or play HD videos.
Are the Quad Cores just Supposed to be Loud?
