Is it normal for the fans on the zv6000 to remain on continuously? My brother's emachine athlon 64 laptop only runs its funs every 10 or 15 minutes but my hp just keeps running. Is that because of the ati graphics card, or is that just the way it is?

HP uses DTR/desktop cpu's whereas the Gateway/emachines use mobile processors which consume less power & hence produce less heat.

For the zv5000z series, 1.4V (max) cores turned on the fan at 55C and shut it off at 50C and below, while 1.5V cores ran the fan all the time whether it needed to or not. I think the 1.8GHz 130nm Semprons are 1.5V cores. I swapped a Mobile-class (1.4V) Athlon 64 into my zv5000z and the fan stopped running all the time. If we're lucky the zv6000's will start doing the same thing when AMD runs out of 130nm chips for HP to buy.

Is this matter only isolated to the zv6000 units shipped with Semprons, or all of them?
